a 1.1 million sanctioning fee is absolutely nuts, even for a ppv fight.

this is the WBC's way of saying, "we can't sustain your MW run any longer. the gig is up."
Jesus, how hard is it to understand that the fee isnt ****ing 1.1 million.

    ****ing hellfire!

the sanctioning fee for the fight was 1.1 million according to what i'm hearing. "step aside" money doesnt' come out of a fighter's purse.

it's not supposed to exist, and probably comes in the form of a paper bag filled with nonsequential 20's and 50's.

        This is absolutely correct.

Cotto wanted to keep hold of the belt so his team agreed 800k for K2 to step away, now in fight week he doesn't want to pay the 300k because he's had to pay the 800k to K2, what the ****kkk is wrong with this Rican ***git?! That 800k and 300k are seperate bills and always would of been, he should be grateful GGG accepted the step aside otherwise he'd of been stripped ages ago!

Wherever the money was going to come from the 1.1 million figure is a combo of step aside money and sanctioning fees.

you're talking about putting money in one pocket or another, and a pocket that isn't supposed to exist if you're the WBC and want to keep from going to prison for white collar crimes.

cotto was going to pay 1.1 million to fight with the belt on the line. how's that not a sanctioning fee? the money comes frmo cotto's purse and is a fee for the right to fight for the WBC title on the line []

he claims 800k of that was step aside money for golovkin, which is fine. that's just a matter of which pocket the WBC puts the 800K into prior to allegedly paying it to gennady golovkin.

no, it is the fee that cotto pays for the right to put his title on the line.

then it gets turned into cash, put into a suitcase, and brought to tom loeffler by a guy named "el chacal."

              • Can't be mad at Cotto. $1.1m is a huge money grab and the WBC isn't offering nearly enough to justify that expense. Wasn't like Cotto was really planning to stay at middleweight anyway, might as well save that cheddar for his family's future.

EDIT: I have no idea what the deal with the step aside money is now though, since GGG still didn't get that fight but it sounds like Cotto hasn't already paid it.

Beating world champions in an era when there is like 5/6 different champions in each and every division?
Canelo has undoubtedly beat better opposition take that into thing and consider that Canelo is only 25 years old, I think Cotto's career is very overrated and he should have lost a few more times in his record especially against Clottey.

                  • it sounds like the WBC expected to extort money from cotto for allowing him to hold hostage the MW title against JMWs and no hopers.

i'm guessin gthat golovkin's people put the pressure on them.

i don't blame cotto for not allowing himself to be extorted, but the guy did benefit from the WBC.

The 800k was a fee negotiated between K2 and Roc Nation for GGG to not enforce his mandatory position and allow Cotto to fight Canelo with the belt on the line. Hat isnt a sanctioning fee. Cotto/ Roc were ok paying this according to his quotes.

300k is the sanctioning fee (3% of Cottos purse) demabded by the WBC. Cotto wanted to pay less, WBC disagreed, WBC stripped him.

I dont really care about the belt or Cotto being stripped or whatever. But GGG should get his money. Cotto has already had the financial rewards of keeping the belt as it would have helped him leverage in negotiations and helped market the fight. GGG allowed that to happen for an agreed price.
