Comments Thread For: Smith: Mayweather Instigated The De La Hoya Letter

ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, who is close friends with Floyd Mayweather Jr., says the retired pound-for-pound king instigated the scathing open letter from Oscar De La Hoya, which appears in the December issue of Playboy Magazine.

Smith felt Mayweather made a few comments that were "below the belt" by taking shots at De La Hoya's past struggles with substance abuse and the controversy where the former six division champion was photographed dressing in drag.

Any logical and rational person knew this, I been saying it for a while Floyd instigated it, but for the Floyd fans Floyd can say anything he wants but you cannot retaliate bafck or else you are hating, jealous, or living off Floyd name.

Its pathetic really. yes Oscar is a cross dressing coke head, Floyd repeats it all the time, what was the reason for bringing that up and not expect retaliation?

Floyd never minds his own business yet acts like everyone is picking on him, Floyd is very nosey and always up in people business and jealous yet his fans never say anything they never go hey Floyd why ya up in Pacquiao business, who care if he get more love than you stop hating.

Its always everyone hating on Floyd, and its always okay for Floyd to hate on others. you just cant speak back to him or else you are wrong.

Sure floyd instigated it by telling the truth. As was clear last night. Rousey had no business on the cover of Ring Magazine.

Oscar from the beginning of the Canelo vs Cotto promotion has been taking shots at the Mayweather vs Pac fight and other Mayweather fights saying his style was boring. That's where it started.

Then Mayweather before he commented about Rousey being on cover of ring was saying Oscar was a piece of s%$t and that no one should sign with Golden Boy.

Oscar continued taking shots at Mayweather still about his fights and his money.

Then Mayweather commented on Rousey being on Ring, and of course he couldn't stop himself from talking about Oscars past about him in the fishnets, his coke use, and the situation with Richard Schaffer.

So Oscar did the letter. What did people expect for Oscar not to saying anything to Mayweather once he went personal on Oscar?

            Instigated it my ass.

So when Oscar was talking **** after the Berto fight, that was Floyd instigating it?
Or when Oscar said Boxing will be better without Floyd, that was Floyd instigating it?

Please, don't try and leave out the numerous amount of petty shots Oscar threw Floyds way just weeks-months ago.

Go look at the statements Floyd originally made when de la hoya went to rehab before the Floyd-Canelo fight, they were all supportive of DLH.

DLH is the one whose been making ****** jabs at floyd recently so yeah floyd brought up de la fishnets and his coke use. Who gives a ****, DLH is loosing it, I dont know if hes relapsed or what, but there is no reason to put Rousey on the cover of ring other than to spite floyd (rousey will never box, she has a judo background, she sucks at stand up, as evidenced by her KO loss, the whole she might box thing is BS to put her on the cover). DLH is making business decisions based on his personal beef with mayweather, you dont do that in business.

His letter in playboy is just more butthurt drama.. boo hoo floyd is boring, well people bought his ppv's, they didnt have to, its their money, their choice.

                  So was Ronda's.

Floyd tends to grant Stephen A exclusive accessibility simply either by phone or via text.

He can call Floyd whenever. He and that other kiss ass over at fighthype lmaO

Difference is Stephen A doesn't pull any punches doesn't hold back and asks Floyd the tough questions

He along with Skip Bayless were at the forefront of the media criticising Floyd before May Pac happened

Still, their opinions on sports (especially Boxing) is a straight up joke.

We shouldn't even discuss their comments.
