I still believe he's been carefully matched since then giving a false idea of what he has left. I don't think anybody really knows. I just don't think he's the fighter he once was.
Anyway i'm tired of repeating myself so im off for a dump, some hand relief and dinner. Not sure what order yet, maybe all at the same time.
Cotto was superb, and fought anyone, at 140; good but not the best at 147; sort of exposed at 154; and 160 only by very careful matching and opportunity!

[QUOTE=deathofaclown;
They are world class fighters but elite are the likes of Floyd who they both lost to. or Manny when Cotto fought him. That is elite.
SUGAR RAY LENRD:
says who? Elite fighters are the world class fighters, example: when you see a boxing match that is a mismatch, one fighter dominating the other to the point that the losing fighter really had no point in being in the same ring. That usually happens when a world class fighter is put in there against a fighter that is a 10 round fighter but is not a world class fighter.
deathofaclown;
These two are just good world class fighters. One of which may not be as good as he once was, and one has looked very unconvincing when he's fought the best opponents on his record and lucky to have just 1 loss on his record
SUGAR RAY LENRD:
We all know that, but it still makes for a very exciting & entertaining fight by two elite fighters of boxing. After Floyd Mayweather, who has retired, these 2along w/ pacquiao are the ones that sell the most ppv. Why are you discrediting these two fighters? Whlie I do agree w/ you about Cotto's best days are behind him, but he still shows up & gives us entertaining fights. And yes Canelo has lost to Floyd, won close fights against Lara & Trout. But, hell not even Floyd fought the best P4P fighter when he was 25... when you get to this level , trust me this is the elite level & very few fighters make here.
deathofaclown;
Elite fighters don't go life and death with or lose to Trout.
SUGAR RAY LENRD:
And what is wrong w/ that? Not to many fighters make it to Trout's level & lets be honest Cotto is really a Welterwgt, so there is no shame in losing to Trout.
deathofaclown;
And Cotto lost some of those fights you listed,
if you're going to make a point at least make it positive. He lost to Floyd, Margarito, Manny, Trout in that list and i believe he drew or lost to Clottey too, but he got the win so whatever.[/QUOTE]
SUGAR RAY LENRD:
All the fighters Cotto lost to are Elite fighters, now had he lost to Delvin Rodriguez,who is not an elite fighter. Do you see the difference?
Cotto beat Clottey, the only reason why that fight was close was cause Clottey headbutted Cotto (a very nasty cut around the eye) that cotto had to result to getting on his bicycle to avoid being stop.Last edited by sugar ray lenrd; 11-13-2015, 10:51 AM.

Trout was good decent fighter but not elite, maybe awkward for some guys though. However that is Cotto's last defeat and he's been carefully matched since then, no matter which way you want to spin it.
And i've never said he isn't a good fighter anymore, he obviously is. I just think his best days are behind him, there's no evidence in the last few years that he's still an elite fighter. As i said, i'm happy to be proven wrong and i hope i am because i want to see a great fight. But on the evidence of the past few years, i'd have to say he isn't what he used to be.
It's not some outlandish claim is it really? He's 35, been in some wars, taken some beating too. He's not invincible and i think it's started taking it's toll in the past few years.

We'll see. If that's what you believe and If Canelo wrecks him, don't come back on here saying Cotto is old and shot as an excuse.
Canelo with his pathetic butcher-trainer cant match that Team.
Emanuel Steward and Pedro Diaz are just not the right Trainers for Cotto. Just as Roach would not be a good Trainer for Wlad, Ward or Mayweather because ist no good style match-up.Last edited by Tobi.G; 11-14-2015, 01:59 AM.
