Comments Thread For: Cotto Insists "No More Than A Year" Left In Boxing

Miguel Cotto is far from the first boxer in history to go back on a self-made promise of when he will call it quits. Though having already broken his own word once, the boxing superstar from Puerto Rico believes the finish line is well within sight – but not before tending to present business at hand.

Up next is the titanic showdown with Saul Alvarez, which takes place November 21 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. He insists that the HBO Pay-Per-View headlining clash is all that is on his mind, as well as it should be as their World middleweight championship bout (being contested at a maximum catchweight of 155 lbs.) is viewed as a 50/50 fight, with Alvarez favored in several sportsbooks.

Ugh...I don't want to see him retire . Boxing losing Floyd, Manny, Cotto, Sergio...all in a short span. I know, there's always a new generation, but dang.

This is one reason I am picking Canelo. No disrespect to Cotto whatsoever but he could have (maybe should have?) retired a couple years ago. His body must be hurting from years of training. If he feels he has 1 year, he can't be feeling great. Guys who feel strong don't talk about an upcoming retirement when they're promoting a fight.

He's fought for a long time, and with the Margarito rematch, Mayweather, Martinez and now Canelo fights, he has made a ****load of money. Lions share against Marg in the rematch that sold 600k, $12-15mill against May, lions share against Martinez, and now this Canelo fight will in the very least do 600k. That's a lot of money and he is an aging fighter. Good time to hang them up after one more fight after Canelo.

A victory over Canelo keeps Cotto in the game at least 3 more years
