Comments Thread For: Bob Arum: Verdejo Can Be as Big or Bigger Than Trinidad

Top Rank will be hosting a press conference in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Thursday to announce their December 11th card on the island that will have Nonito Donaire facing Cesar Juarez. But the real main event to the natives will be the return of native son Felix Verdejo, who is scheduled to face Josenilson Dos Santos.

Verdejo is talented, but has fought nobody. With all the hype this guy gets, he should be facing world class opponents.

As long as his hands don't become a chronic problem and he's not in and out of the ring, then I imagine he will take off quickly. There have been a couple of fights where it was standing room only basically with everyone there to see him.

Yes, Felix Trinidad was big!!!! He drew large crowds to his fights, especially the ones in New York and he drew very well on PPV during the time that he fought.

Anybody has potential, but I don't think Verdejo will ever reach the level of Trinidad. Cotto couldn't reach Trinidad's level and Cotto has fought high quality competition. Verdejo, like all other fighters of today chooses his opponents from the Bum of the Month Club. The way promoters and/or advisors and protecting fighters today, none of them will ever achieve the level of success that Trinidad or De La Hoya did in their careers.
