Chris Eubank Jr - World Beater or Hype Job?

Just re-watched the BillyJoeSaunders fight where I think he acquitted himself well, then watched the Chudinov fight for the first time where I thought he looked horrible! Jerky movement, loading up on near every punch - it seems his crappy resume has really impacted his progress and growth as a fighter. He's fought bums upon bums upon bums and now when he steps up he looks terrible, in my humble opinion, of course.

What do you think? Does he have what it takes to go the whole way? Or is he a reasonably talented prospect who's been managed wrong?

I whooped Chudinov though but yes, you're right, he isn't the most fluid guy in there but he is strong, can definitely punch, probably has a good chin and is actually quite athletic.

But to answer your question is quite impossible, for me anyway. Against BJS, I expected him to lose and he lost but he ended the fight strong. Everyone else he has fought has not even been close to a b level, which is where BJS is right now.

But theres, definitely some pedigree there and things to work with, it's obvious the guy loves the gym, it's obvious he isn't shook of anyone and it's obvious he has ambition, all ear marks of a great fighter. He just needs a good team and to work on tightening up his defense.

Next year he has to face Jacobs/Quillin and Lee or BJS. That's gonna show us where he is at in his career.

I think he can be a good world level contender/champ but he needs work and take his time. I don't see the point in rushing him, he's only 26 and the Saunders fight was a massive leap from where he was at before that, and he actually did well in the second half.

His career has seemed a bit of a shambles so far but now we has Booth as a trainer and Hearn promoting him, he might get some stability and go the correct routes.

I'm not sure if he'll be elite or anything like that but i definitely think he could be around the top of his division with the correct guidance and training. He's obviously very gifted as a natural athlete, but his ring skills need work still.

If you watch the BJS fight really closely you will see Saunders catch him with much better timed hooks and straight lefts.

If Saunders had some pop, he could have hurt Eubanks easily all through the fight.

I think European level is as far as he will get.

I think he might go beyond European but who knows.

I'd never write him off just because guys who've sparred with him like Froch have been singing his praises for a while when they have no need to. So i think he might have something about him, but it really depends on his development from now because he does have a lot of flaws too.

I just wonder if he's naturally suited to boxing or not, or if he's just a good athlete that will get him to a certain point and can't go much further. Time will tell.

Your'e right there, he is an athlete first and foremost.

A lot like Wilder in the HW Division.

Only difference is, the MW Division is more stacked at the highest level.

Lets be honest, all but one of his opponents have been C level or below, when he stepped up he fell short.

The best indication of his real potential would be if he puts on a really dominating display against O'Sullivan.

It will also be interesting to see how he (and Snr) get on with Adam Booth.

Usually when you're one of the top few domestically in Britain, you're already at/past European level.

People need to remember that he had less than 20 fights as an amateur, he was a regional Golden Gloves champ in less than 10. He's been boxing as either amateur or pro for 8 years now, you get amateurs turning over with double that and they're as old as Eubank Jr.

He's very talented, i think he will do well, and i think he'd beat BJS if they fought again tomorrow.

other than his dad I don't think that many people are hyping him. I think he's good enough to grab one of the titles after GGG leaves the division. I'd like to see him in there against somebody like lemieux and imo he'd probably beat saunders in a rematch.

For me, the reason he struggled early on in the BJS fight was because he'd fought literally nobody but bums before that, just using boxrec the fighters before that he fought were all in the 100's of the division so hardly the correct way to prepare to then take on a legit challenger in the division. For me, he's a long way from getting to that "elite" bracket as of now, but time is well and truly on his side so I think he needs to take his time fight some people that he should beat but are rated decently. Spike O Sullivan is definitely a good fight for him IMO he should win a competitive fight in that one.

I reckon he has to fight a few more B level fighters, good learning fights, before he takes on one of those guys you just mentioned. A couple more domestic fighters and maybe another good European pug and then we'll see if he's ready for a world title shot.
