It's an interesting choice. On one hand, DeGale is in his weight division, is a champ, and is also British. On another hand, DeGale isn't that liked in the UK and has traveled abroad for his biggest purses. His take in Bute is supposed to be ~$2m, a career high. Considering that was Golovkin's last purse, one can argue that GGG may be more popular than DeGale. One (not saying it's the greatest) way to compare the two is to look at Google buzz for both names in the UK - they had similar popularity from 14 to 15, with Golovkin a slight favorite today. It's not a given that DeGale would be better for Froch financially.

It may also look slightly bad for Froch if he chooses DeGale after all the 'too big too strong' mentions he had about Golovkin - it may look like a duck to some fans.

I have no problems with either match, would be very interested in either Froch/GGG or Froch/DeGale.

I'm sorry no, degale may not be liked in the uk but he is far far far and away more known than golovkin. The ppv would be more popular than a Froch ggg fight in the uk. Not saying it's a better fight mind you. But if Froch had fought degale on degales pro debut out of the Olympics it'd still be a bigger fight in the uk that Froch ggg now.

I never believed he was really retired. It didn't sound all that convincing cos he'd always leave the door open.

There just wasn't enough money in any fight out there for him considering what he got for Groves II.

Froch would be a great name for GGG. If Canelo or Cotto give GGG the runaround Froch would be a nice plan B or a later in 2016 option if doable.

Idk how big a deal DeGale is in the UK with his gold medal & now his title belt, but it seems like it should be huge deal in the UK.

I tend to be pro-retirement for boxing & pro-staying retired cuz I think boxing is something you can't be confused about doing or not doing, but either of those fights seems like some interesting moves for all parties.

Bute was at 170lbs in his fight earlier this year and only went as high as 173lbs vs Pascal. If DeGale doesn't jump on him right away, I think Bute's confidence will grow and he'll become more aggressive and cause DeGale all sorts of problems.
