Vasyl Lomachenko has a promoter who won't get him the best fights

    Interesting article:

2015 has been a disappointing year for the great Ukrainian, writes John Dennen

WE have learned some things this weekend. But we haven’t learned anything new about Vasyl Lomachenko. Defending his WBO featherweight title from Romulo Koasicha, Lomachenko did exactly what we knew he could. He was patient, examined the man in front of him, pattered him with light shots from different angles to study his response and as the fight progressed unleashed the heavier artillery. His footwork bamboozled the Mexican, completely outmaneuvering Koasicha at times and once Lomachenko decided to finish him with body shots the Ukrainian was ruthlessly accurate.

But Lomachenko should be further on from the likes of Koasicha. It was essentially a repeat of his showcase against Gamalier Rodriguez on the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao undercard in May.

Lomachenko is a hugely impressive boxer. I’ve been fortunate enough to see him more than most – I was ringside to see him win his second World championships gold medal in Azerbaijan, his second Olympic gold in London, box against Sam Maxwell in York Hall of all places. I even got to see his pro debut at the Thomas & Mack centre, his world title defence against Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo in Macau and the Rodriguez bout at the MGM. But even my admiration for the great man has faded, slightly, since he won his world title in just three professional contests.

That Piriyapinyo fight was exciting. Despite hurting one hand Lomachenko hunted for the knockout using just his right. But Rodriguez and Koasicha, who accounted for 2015 activity, brought little extra out of him. He is too good for them.

Promotional issues can cause a lot of problems.

Same problem that led to Gamboa's career being halted, and Mikey Garcia's career being halted, and Andre Ward's career being halted...

Whether is poor fights, a lack of fights or whatever else, it's the worst thing to see happen to a top level fighter.

Arum has been ruining a lot of careers:

          M Garcia
          Rigo
          Korobov
          Mekhontsev
          Zewski

          Now Lomachenko.

And Gvozdyk (who still doesn't have an opponent for his fight next week - compare what's happening to him to the way likewise very talented Bivol and Beterbiev's careers have been managed so far)

He should be fighting more if he's going to fight competition like he did this year. We also know for sure that he's good enough to compete on a championship level. He needs to step up again next year, because this year was a huge waste. Inactivity and poor competition is a bad year no matter how many fights you have.

Arum did a terrific job with both Garcia and Rigondeaux. They have no one to blame but themselves for their careers stalling. They fought against Arum despite the good he did for them.

When Lomo signed with TR, TR had 4 champions at 126 - Salido, Gradovich, Donaire, Walters. They also had had 3 more top 15 FW's. They also agreed to give Lomo a title shot in his second fight and then agreed to let Lomo fight off HBO so he could face a Haymon fighter in Russell.

TR's did well for Lomo before this year. The same thing is happening with Crawford, where TR simply can't secure any quality opponents because Haymon signed them all. TR needs to go on the offensive and send guys like Walters & Valdez after Haymon title holders. Valdez should be targeted after LSC/Cuellar or Selby, not Lomachenko.

Also, TR did give guys like Rigo & Korobov honest efforts. They paid Rigo very well and were always placing him on highly watched undercards for Pac & Chavez. Rigo's biggest downfall was the Agbeko fight. He had already been on the hot-seat with reporters like Rafael for his Donaire performance (which I thought was entertaining). But beating Donaire he knocked off a hyped action fighter in a somewhat non-action way. When you knock off a beloved action fighter and follow up with an incredibly boring performance, there's going to be backlash.

As for Korobov, the guy is self-destructive. He pulled out of his fight last month with no reason given. In the past he and his father were the ones who insisted on keep fighting 8 rounders vs journeymen when TR wanted to step him up.

                    I agree.

Gvodzyk and Mekhontsev are already being ruined by Arum- add Lomachenko to the list.

All 3 of them are P4P talents, yet their career is gonna stall and they're gonna be headlining BET cards against some random British milk delivery men at catchweight
