Lets jot some more commonalities. None of those guys were coming off a hiatus, the guys coming up had fought most of the guys at their weight, the only way to move on was to move up they, and all had more of a following than Golovkin/Ward, except maybe Calzaghe.

Well you can compare GGG with Pacquiao
Exciting, humble, two real champions in and outside of the ring.
Ward has alot in common with Mayweather.
Delusional, egocentric and only fights with all advantages on their side.
Big difference though is Floyd still had a huge following, Ward has 13 fans and a couple GGG haters supporting him.Last edited by Jubei; 11-07-2015, 09:02 PM.

Times change, priorities change. Ward was a big name in 2013. Fighting two times in 3 years and those two names being Edwin Rodriguez and Paul Smith didn't help his case.
Also fighting at 172, even though he had 2 years to make 168 shows alot where Ward is moving. He will retire anyway soon. Who wants to see him? The 10 GGG haters on this forum dont even wanna see Ward, he almost has no fans.
Ward had the chance and blew it, now he is an irrelevant pretender dragging 40 year old columbian plumbers to 175 and getting handpicked opponents rejected by the NSAC.

Now let's compare GGGs star power to Cotto, Oscar and Zags. I don't think he's bigger than any of them.
Now let's compare risk. Ward is perceived to be in his prime (although his injuries make me question if he's slipping), Martinez was shot (but we didn't know that until after the fact) and Hopkins was the man against Oscar and still performing at the world class level against Zags.
Now let's look at alternatives. Oscar could sell against anybody. Cotto passed on a bigger $$$ Canelo fight and Zags had possibly Froch or options.
I think these situations are comparable. The only difference is Ward is perceived as the riskiest move which is why it isn't happening.

If they were keen, GGG's team wouldn't have suggested having the fight at 164.
However, something stinks. GGG with the catch weights and Ward with his injuries and management issues. I don't know what to think.
