Roach trained Chavez Jr as a personal favor for Chavez Sr because not even Chavez Sr could influence Jr to change his habits. Roach decided not to walk away out of respect for Chavez Jr father. So I guess in essence Chavez Sr is equally to blame too than according to your logic.

I agree, Chavez Sr. is partially to blame for his son being lazy and letting him live off his name. Roach may have been doing the old man a favor but he did Jr. a big disservice by enabling him. Chavez Jr. was never talented enough to get buy with those habits and needed a trainer that was willing to push him.

But unfortunately with the numerous trainer's Jr has gone through including the influence of one of the greatest fighter's who has ever stepped in the ring in that being his father the problems lay squarely and exclusively on Jr. Thus, one can only blame a trainer so much regarding enabling.

You see you can teach a fighter technique, help him aquire skill, give him insight to many physical and psychological factors that play a role in winning and training but you can never teach desire to be the best you can be. That my friend is job all on its own and one of which Jr failed miserably at on numerous occasions.

Chavez lacks the work ethic and desire to be great and Roach should never be blamed for that.

He has had some top trainers recently and seems to be looking for something/someone, but the truth is, he needs to look at himself.
