Mayweather doesn't get KO'ed by that shot because nothing in his career suggests that he would be dumb enough to put himself in a position to make that shot as devastating as it was to begin with: his hands half way down (Duran's left was low the entire fight), on the ropes, chin straight up in the air (Duran did this all fight long), and already disoriented from blocking punches with his face.

Could Floyd Mayweather have took the shot Hearns sparked Duran with?

You are giving Floyd too much credit here. Floyd has never displayed his "suspect" defense against an A Level PRIME Killer like Hearns, either. Floyd does amateurish things from time to time in the ring. Did you not see how Cotto busted his face with repeated jabs when Floyd dropped his hands down, which he often does??? Floyd also likes to go to the ropes and often backs STRAIGHT out with his chin in the air. So, your logic is flawed, buddy. Hearns could catch Floyd the EXACT same way he caught Duran. But since it's Floyd, you don't want to acknowledge these flaws or holes in his game. Smh.

You basically prove my point when your 'evidence' is Mayweather taking a couple of stiff jabs from a left hand dominant, future HOF fighter (Cotto) in a fight in which he (Mayweather) dominated. Yet, somehow that equates to the repeated straight right hand clinic Duran took from the end of the first round to the devastating conclusion of that fight from Hearns?
Come on, bruh.
That 'hand dropping' you sight is done in fights where Mayweather has already established clear range control (Corrales, Hatton, Canelo, Maidana II, etc.) or feels no threat of the opponents offense (Berto, Marquez, Baldomir, etc. ). When that's not the case (DLH, Maidana I, Castillo, Mosley, etc.), you don't see that nearly as much.
But all one has to do is look at the tape and watch Duran's 'defense' in the Hearns fight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaESioM03g4
If you truly believe that Mayweather, giving up the advantages Duran was in in reach (11 inches), height (5 1/2 inches) and power to Hearns would be as defensively irresponsible, do 'amateurish things', and display his 'suspect defense' as Duran was during that fight, ESPECIALLY against a known 'A Level PRIME Killer' like Hearns, I don't know what to tell you.
But do you.Last edited by Sweet Jones; 11-06-2015, 01:52 PM.

Duran was a sucker for the straight right because of his low left and high head, even though he rolled beautifully its difficult to time it 100% of the time....Also early on he was a sucker for the left hook
Its hard to make a point to someone that has it in their head that they are right....based off both you guys posts you actually have a bit of boxing knowledge....him, not so much

If I had to guess, I'd say no.
If Hearns had to wear the gloves Floyd made him wear, Floyd would survive.

- Duran was in there with everyone, and only one guy knocked him out clean. Now I cant think of anyone in that era or this era that would be able to take that shot besides Hagler. PBF would get laid out by Hearns, its not a fair fight. Hearns was just to big, someone compared Benitez to Floyd and how Hearns couldnt KO Benitez, Benitez defense was hands down defense, he would just move enough to either get out the way or take enough off of the shots so it wouldnt hurt, they were 2 different kinds of fighters both defensive wizards but totally different styles. Floyd doesnt dip and duck like Benitez did. But Im sure if Hearns were to have hit Benitez with the shot he caught Duran, Benitez would of gotten laid out as well. Hearns right hand was no joke.
