Vargas-Trinidad was a thrilling shootout with brutal finish. I'm surprised Jay Nady let the fight go on that long.

Both Trinidad and Vargas were champions, in their prime, undefeated, had high knockout percentages... and it was Mexico vs Puerto Rico.

De La Hoya-Vargas did not have these factors prior to the fight.
He's right though, it would make a better Legendary Nights. The back story and HBO will probably pretend Vargas was in his prime

Even though I was only 9, I knew how special the fight was. Especially for me since I lived in Southern California. Back then, Vargas was the symbol of masculinity and style. He had swagger before swagger was a thing.

As for Tito, all I knew was that he was dangerous. My uncle told me because he is black he is a better fighter -- and he never even seen him fight yet. He was right.

We are not like Donaire who said he would never fight Manny even if he was big enough!
        Good points!

But I think DLH vs Vargas had Mex Am gold medalist vs Mex Am thug!
A sort of good vs evil! All of the things Vargas was saying about DLH, back and forth. If you think Mexico vs Pueto Rico is a rivalry. We Mexicans go to war with each other til the end.

        Solution: make both!

The fact that Vargas tested positive for steroids after that fight will kind of take the fun out of that episode. Vargas was never at the level he was before Trinidad. Otherwise, they should make Legendary Nights episodes for Vargas-Mosley and Vargas-Mayorga

Cool! Good points you brought up!

DLH was kinda hated by some of his own people! I disliked him for a hot min for beating an old Chavez sr! I got over it! I kinda got over him in fishnets... Not really!

I enjoyed De La Hoya Hopkins & Trinidad Hopkins very much!

I do believe DLH beat Trinidad. Was surprised Hopkins stopped him, but Hopkins & his bag o tricks... Broke him down & stopped him.

I enjoyed Trinidad vs Joppy. I saw all these fights on PPV as they happened.

Yea true. Weren't they supposed to re-start the series? I remember Gatti-Ward or something like that.

Since boxing is a niche sport, that show probably received poor ratings and was canceled. But I think that show can appeal to anyone.

I'm not too sure your first paragraph is true. Vargas was a loudmouth punk and was perceived that way. At least that's how I remember it.

Yeah, kinda how I remembered him starting to be perceived around that time too. The Olympic luster was starting to dim a bit. Must of been a Californina thing for punchr.

As to the original post, no, that fight doesn't deserve a Legendary Nights, especially considering the number of better candidates (including DLH-Vargas).
