Ward also wanted top billing and to be the main fight after Cotto and Canelo fought along with Ward's demand for the biggest pay day. Typical Andre Ward BS power play that boxing has always ignored. Uncle Tom Ward has ruined his career via greed and no fan base and nothing at all to offer any promoter due to dull fights and a prima donna uncle Tom Attitude. Ward has no career.
this undercard is straight trash. ggg-lemieux flopped but that card was stacked, cotto/canelo should just be the first and only fight, not interested in none of those other fights. as far as ward, its pretty lame brand didn't get a full camp, so if this is true i agree with it. put it on regular HBO and if its not too late replace brand with that cuban gonzalez, ward would get credit for beating him.
Well I'll be damned. We can't on anything. ****, I have to change my views NOW!
didn't I see on this morning's Golovkin thread a whole bunch of Ward fans pretty much justifying this fight by saying he was going to be getting a lot of exposure - cue sound of deflating balloon.
Maybe just maybe somebody has pointed out to Ward that if you want to prepare for the best light heavyweight in the world then you had best start fighting true LHWs even if they aren't that great.
Maybe it means HBO's giving Ward a prime time slot not on the ppv. That was on the table at one point. Perhaps it was even Andre himself who wanted a better opponent so he wouldn't take so much ****, therefore they moved the fight. Perhaps even a split-site double header when Kovalev fights Pascal in Montreal, Ward fights Gonzalez in Oakland?
Team Ward must have sat down and planned this out ie. level of fighter for 1st nd 2nd fights. I can't see them suddenly making a huge switch of plan and jumping in for someone like Gonzalez. I hope I'm wrong but I doubt it.
Most likely the fight was pulled for him by someone else or some issue on the Brand side with not getting enough money to fight P4P #1.
