It does a lot for him actually. Everything after that at MW has to go through him. That's a big deal. And eventually Canelo will grow out of his 155 lb class and realize that he'd get a smaller share of the purse than he would have gotten had he fought GGG right after Cotto (if he wins.).

Cotto remains champ. Cotto would have to fight ggg.
If one ready the article Cotto said he would fight ggg if it's his best option.
Translation: I'm fighting ggg if Floyd doesn't give me a rematch. I think it reasonable. Floyd is finite. Ggg will be there after Floyd. So I would have no problem with that senerio. It would also fill Cotto contract with roc with huge fights.Last edited by Don Pichardo; 11-02-2015, 08:50 AM.Comment

Correct - he fought the best at 147 and got stopped. He fought the best at 154 and got outboxed. He's now claiming to be the 160 champion whilst fighting at 153 and blocking fights with genuine middleweights, at middleweight.
This is all academic as Canelo will beat Cotto but is there a single person who actually believes Cotto, the 'lineal middleweight champion', won't get knocked out by GGG at 160?
If so, please speak up.Comment

Miguel Cotto's legacy is already defined. He'll be in the HOF, like it or not.Correct - he fought the best at 147 and got stopped. He fought the best at 154 and got outboxed. Please explain why Cotto needs a 34 year old prospect on his resume. Cotto is a HOFer if he never fights again.
That's like saying Larry Holmes needed Tyson on his resume.Comment

Canelo has plenty of options above 155, such as 156, 157, 158, 158.5, 159, etc.It does a lot for him actually. Everything after that at MW has to go through him. That's a big deal. And eventually Canelo will grow out of his 155 lb class and realize that he'd get a smaller share of the purse than he would have gotten had he fought GGG right after Cotto (if he wins.).
One thing you have to remember about the World Caneloweight Title is the weight moves anywhere that Golovkin doesn't.Comment

It would actually have to be Ward becoming GGG's mandatory to be accurate, since it was GGG that offered the catchweight that he knew Ward would not accept. In any case, GGG pulled the same A-Side shenanigans that Cotto is pulling now. Fight on my terms, or no fight.Comment

He fought a fighter at 145, you can't take credit for a catch weight and then not want Cotto to ask for a catch weight.. Shame on you sir!!Correct - he fought the best at 147 and got stopped. He fought the best at 154 and got outboxed. He's now claiming to be the 160 champion whilst fighting at 153 and blocking fights with genuine middleweights, at middleweight.

Give me a ****ing break. Cotto has done plenty in the sport so you can quit your whining now. When this fight is over, we'll see what happens with the belt. In the meantime, I'll enjoy a fight between two top boxers.Comment
