Cotto resume is one of the best of any active fighters in boxing at this moment
at 140 Defended his WBO title againsta few undefeated fighters and big punchers such as Kelson Pinto (21-0-19kos) , Ricardo Torres (27-0-26kos), defeated a seasoned veteran in Demarcus Corley (29-3-1-19kos), Defeated big puncher veteran Randall Bailey (28-4-27kos) Cotto KOed all of them! Malignaggi (27-0-4kos) lost and had his jaw broken in to pieces....
at 147 He defeated Carlos Quintana (22-0-18kos), Zab Judah (34-4-25kos)(still in his prime), Shane Mosley (still in his prime, coming off 2 big wins against Fernando Vargas and Oscar De la Hoya). Lost to Margacheato (loaded gloves we all know) (almost got killed by the dirty mexican). Came back and defeated Joshua Clottey (very avoided fighter at 147 due to dirty tactic headbutts). Was weight drained to 155 pounds in order to fight "PED" Pacquiao at the time (WAS KTFO)..... the list goes on but just to give you an quick example.
What about GGG's best win??? Murray? Lemiuex??
Having said all of that, find one person (including Cotto, Roach and PRBoxingCotto) who thinks that Cotto can compete with GGG. That is why all of you guys are fine with the so-called MW Champ ducking the real MW Champ. Nobody would honestly begrudge Cotto for avoiding GGG (because a career-ending loss is certain) but for the fact that Cotto continues to parade around as a paper MW champ. "I'm not a MW, folks, I'm the MW Champion!"
After this fight, Cotto will be in the running to face Mayweather, in a fight that would generate millions. And if that doesn't happen, there's always the possibility of a Canelo rematch, which would also generate millions. Now, having those options, why in his right mind would Cotto opt for Golovkin? Golovkin barely had 97k-150,000 PPV buys. Cotto would never be able to earn the kind of money he's after, if that's all Golovkin brings to the table. You don't make 30 million off of that--that simple. Cotto wants an opponent who brings in his own fan base, as well, thereby increasing revenue.
I've thought it all along that Cotto never truly saw Golovkin as being on his level. To some Golovkin fans, that may seem impossible, but that's the impression I've had. Yes, Golovkin's this new guy on the scene, but that doesn't mean he's earned a shot at the King of the division. Has the WBC orchestrated this whole "mandatory" situation? Sure, but, you need to understand, you CANNOT force a fighter to take part in a financial disaster. Like it or not, Golovkin's going to have to step up and beat someone like Froch, etc, and prove he has a fan base outside of some of the guys posting here.
And don't even come with the whole "scared" excuse. Cotto has fought everybody there is to fight in boxing. He's not scared of anybody. This guy has faced monster after monster after monster, almost all at or near their peak. No one else has done this to the degree Cotto has.
It's just simple economics, here. Cotto believes he deserves a lot of money at this stage of his career, and I agree. And if you want to mention the competitive aspect, then let me remind you that Mayweather is higher than Golovkin on every single level in boxing. He's the true pound for pound king. Golovkin is just a good fighter who's knocking out B-level guys. That's not enough to claim he's better than Mayweather. Period.
If the WBC has problem with it, Cotto will dump the title in the trash, and laugh at how they deal with Golovkin's 97k "sanctioning fees." Cotto doesn't need the title; he'd still be the lineal champion. I cannot believe these guys coming on here and trashing a legend like Cotto. It shows all you need to know.
Neither of them want to go anywhere near GGG. They know better. Giving up a strap is much healthier than taking a beating. I expect they avoid him, especially Cotto. Cotto has taken enough beatings in his career. Canelo is technically young enough to wait, but sucking himself down to 155 might cost him in this fight. He drains himself to the brink, which might shorten his career. His rehydration stats show that he will eventually pay a price.
I think perhaps they can articulate their positions better when they refer to their personal internal fantasies........
I definitely know that's true in my case. Just about everything I post here is a thinly veiled gay fantasy. Can't wait to see Golovkin gape Cotto's *******.
Cotto won't have to worry about GGG. Canelo will knock him out. That will be the final chapter of his story. The pretend middleweight champion can retire and cover the rest of himself in tattoos.
