chavez jr could have made 12 million dollars in 2 fights to fight golovkin. did he make 12 million to fight fonfara and reyes? no not even close. he went to haymon for the money doe! he went to haymon for negative 7-8 million dollars. arum that cheap bastard!
What makes you think that Chavez Jr didn't make $12m for those two fights?
By counting simply the disclosed Showtime money and the Mexican TV money, Chavez Jr took home at least $6m for the Fonfara fight (before counting any sponsorship money, personally or on the actual event).
Beyond that, ChavezJr-Reyes, when you actually look at things, was actually a double show (Frampton-GonzalezJr and ChavezJr-Reyes was packaged as a two-for-one, at the gate and on TV). Mexican TV rights, Showtime rights fee, share off of the event sponsors, personal sponsors, and the fact that he company was on the marquee, and ChavezJr made his money.
I'd watch that fight on PBC...
I think Chavez Jr could make 168 if he actually trained like a professional prizefighter and wasn't eating bowls of cereal at midnight, smoking blunts all day, and skipping training sessions whenever he felt like it...but we know that's not changing....
Stopped taking your post seriously when Martinez became old and highly overrated. He was thee middleweight champion. And had beaten some of the best middleweights at the time. From the real champ Pavlik, up to Chavez.
I was actually a Martinez fan but I still believe he was overrated and I'm even going to tell you why I believe that.
To begin with one of his biggest wins was over, in my opinion, one of the most overrated fighters in the history of the sport. And who is that? That would be the former fighter in your avatar.
I say Paul was overrated because he never dominated a division he was exactly 2-2 in world title fights. He was out boxed by and lost to a horrible fighter in Quintana. He also got way to much credit for beating fellow senior citizens Winky Wright and Verno Phillips.
But don't get me wrong because I do give him a little credit because he did beat Margacheato, many believe that the fight could have gone either way, and he did knock out Quintana in the rematch. However, in the biggest fight in his career he got knocked out cold by Sergio and he lost in every way except on the scorecards to Lara.
Simply put I don't believe that all the hype that surrounded Paul's career line up with what he actually accomplished in the ring. Since you mentioned him I will also touch on Pavlik.
I was also a fan of Pavlik. But honestly he was a one dimensional drunk who was having all kinds of personal problems when he and Sergio fought. And even with all his problems Pavlik was able to fight Martinez pretty even going into the 9th round. Then the cut and blood blinded him and the fight changed and Pavlik was never the same.
Here is something to think on. Pavlik was so highly thought of after he lost to Sergio that Ring magazine did not even bother to rank him in their top ten when he moved up to Super Middleweight after the Martinez fight. Which was a close fight through eight rounds. Yet the Ring did somehow rank the overrated Junior when he moved up after Sergio kicked his overrated a$$ at 160. Does that truly make sense to anyone??
As far as Junior is concerned I am not going to waste much time on him. With that said, Sergio easily out boxed the plotting goofball and Fonfara finished exposing him by showing what a decent fighter can do to him when the playing field is even. Enough said on that.
As for Sergio's other opponents he gets to much credit, in my opinion, for beating the same level of competition that many fans crucify Golovkin for fighting. He should have also had a lose against Murray and then he gets his a$$ handed to him by, in my opinion, a washed up junior middleweight in Cotto. Who by the way now holds the lineal middleweight championship of the world hostage!
So there you have it that is why I believe Sergio was a decent fighter with a decent career. But in my humble opinion he was simply highly overrated. And I don't believe that my opinion is going to change anytime soon.
If it's a voluntary defense, it doesn't matter if he deserves it or not.
If Chavez can make weight, what is the objection to him being ranked in the top 15? He's a former world champion at the previous weight class and a WBC continental americas champion at 168. I don't see the issue.
If Chavez can make weight I'm certain they will make concessions for his lazy ass ..Hey know what hope they make it I change my stance ..Hope Jack pulls it off ..
