Comments Thread For: Roman Gonzalez-Ruenroeng Near Deal For Unification

As a rematch with Juan Francisco ‘El Gallo’ Estrada is being groomed for a big event in the second half of 2016, Roman ‘Chocolatito’ Gonzalez has set his sights on another flyweight unification bout.

The reigning World flyweight champion has informed local media at home in Nicaragua that plans are in the works for a clash with Amnat Ruenroeng. Once finalized, the two will put their respective unbeaten records and titles on the line in a unification clash targeted for February 16.

It's hard to dislike guys like him who waste no time getting back in the ring, especially against top level opposition. I've jumped on the bandwagon. Look forward to this matchup!

Sets up a perfect unification fight late in 2016. Gonzalez vs Amnat in February, against a mandatory in June/July (probably in Japan), fight on the GGG-Canelo undercard in Sept against another mandatory, then him vs Estrada in their own Dec HBO card.

Oh hell yeah. Chocolatito does everything you want to see from a fighter.

IF Roman-Amnat comes off, and he beats him, Nietes, and Estrada next year (all IF), that would be a conclusive little man era clean out

Amnat Ruenroeng is no joke. Gonzales better make sure and have a referee that can control the fight. Ruenroeng isn't shy about fouling. Sometimes a pressure brawler can make a more skilled fighter lose his composure. I hope this fight happens. Could be a "fight of the year" type fight.

35 is old for that weight class and I don't think Ruenroeng is on level with Viloria. If Shimming and Arroyo put him down, I think Roman stops him in the mid-rounds.

I wonder if they'll do a Sunday afternoon fight so they can show it prime-time on HBO like Tyson/Douglass?

If this fight happens, the Cotto-Canelo winner vacates, and Lee beats Saunders, HBO could do Golovkin-Lee and Gonzalez-Estrada to unify all 4 belts in two different weight classes in one night.
