Absolutely, I think Lemieux brought more financially than Ward would have. Casual fans have no idea who either Lemieux or Ward are now. Having Lemieux on the card gave it a 'unification' theme with belts on the line. Fighting Ward would have no theme.

Also, for arguments sake, let's say that fighting Ward would have been more profitable. Let's say, for argument sake, that GGG could have gotten 3m for the fight instead of 2m.
If you were a Golovkin, would you rather fight a guy in your division with a chance to win a title for 2m, or fight a guy who's 12 lbs heavier, no belt for 3m? This is a no brainer.
97k was a ****ing disaster. Not even trolling bro. I thought it would do 200k easy.

As I stated before months ago, I'd have preferred Lara over Monroe but my point stands - Lara could do a bit more to move this fight on - go up and fight the winner of Quillen jacobs - if Lara is a good as you say he is then he should thrash either one of them.
Yes he is a levels below Floyd, Canelo, Cotto but he's above Monroe. Sanchez was saying they choose Monroe over Lara because he's more well known and a bigger draw. You just admitted that's not true.

      • Golovkin wasn't scared of lil feather-fisted welterweight Floyd.

But as for those 2 JMW studs....... hmmm

        • I don't get why GGG would refuse to give the Cotto/Canelo winner a cw ?

Not like he hasn't used them himself, and he knows Cotto only weighs 153.

Thats a huge payday for GGG, and a much-needed name on his resume.

It would also be great exposure considering his PPV only pulled in 97k.

Is there anybody who thinks that GGG could not beat the winner at 156 ?

What is the fkn problem here ?

If I was GGG and thought I could beat Ward I would have fought for the extra million. But some fighters dare to be great.
I'm not gonna rehash this theme. 97k came via a tweet from someone not associated with the promotion of the fight or the network that aired it. It's a questionable source at best. Network numbers are 150. They expected 200. Slight disappointment as I said. Still financial success using their word and basic math. Not going to argue facts with you.

I'm glad Golovkin is not you then. You'd make an awful boxer and a promoter. No, fighting someone who outweighs you by 12-15 lbs with no prep is not dare to be great. It's idiotic. Even ward wasn't that dumb by requesting 3 tune ups. Granted he's fighting a 38 year old smw at lhw so the quality of the tune up is questionable, but the sentiment is there.

No, fewer people know Monroe, and they're both zero draws. Monroe just comes with no baggage, and at 1/10th the cost.

So let's not say what casuals like when they bought FMJ vs Berto or was that just hardcore fans?

GGG will not be a strong A side unless he gives in to either Cotto or Alvarez demands and actually beats them. No one is going to pay anything to see him fight C-level competition.
I dunno, he doesnt clinch that much and nobody else has managed to use his recipe for success. Not really the template for Ward.

It's true, GGG will probably need Cotto or Canelo's scalp to go big time, so we'll see what happens there. But if Canelo meekly surrenders the belt, I can see GGG gaining some of Canelo's fans.

Who knows, can't imagine many buying Canelo future PPVs after yet another humiliation. Floyd, Pac, Cotto retired, where else is there PPV budget gonna go?

No one is speaking of fighting Chavez now, if JED_LIE didn't have a problem with GGG fighting Chavez at 168 when he came in the ring weighing 190+ then why should there be a double standard if Ward weighed 190 but every one who knows boxing knows Ward doesn't put on 22lbs come fight night.

                      Got it, well get it..mate.
And still you keep saying ****. I don't have an issue with him fighting either.

Are you spazing out now because I'm not afraid of Mr. Lawsuit.

**** Chavez, he can get KO'd too.

Well not, true. Fight Chavez is pointless.

I say I want GGG to fight Ward, you make something else up. You can say I'm scared of Ward, so you go back to a point I shot down three times. It looks very pathetic.

What kind of moron would say if GGG beats Ward he won't be considered great.

If you were 1/4 as smart as you pretend to be, then you probably dropped out your freshman year of high school.

                      Oh, I mean, you'd know you're full of ****.

GGG moves up and KO's Ward, his HOF career is cemented. Bet on that!

Besides, he'll have other great wins.

I get you, you hate him so much, you hope no one fights him, so he can't be great.

We get it. GGG probably is working over your favorite fighter or something.

You are actively hoping the man never gets a shot because he isn't following your time table.

                      Straight pathetic ass hater

Get a clue, do you honestly think that if GGG and team thought they could beat Ward now they wouldn't have taken him up on his offer?

Like you said he wanted the soft touches at 168.
Get the **** out of here.

If GGG does Ward in, it will be seen as a career defining win.

You have to be a complete ****ing moron to think otherwise.

                      Just stop.

Well, it did over 150,000, so you quoting bogus numbers that no credible source is citing says it all.

GGG is doing fine. So ****ing bad, Canelo is basically about hand over his balls.
