So you are saying Lemieux brought more financially to the table than Ward?
Absolutely, I think Lemieux brought more financially than Ward would have. Casual fans have no idea who either Lemieux or Ward are now. Having Lemieux on the card gave it a 'unification' theme with belts on the line. Fighting Ward would have no theme.
Also, for arguments sake, let's say that fighting Ward would have been more profitable. Let's say, for argument sake, that GGG could have gotten 3m for the fight instead of 2m.
If you were a Golovkin, would you rather fight a guy in your division with a chance to win a title for 2m, or fight a guy who's 12 lbs heavier, no belt for 3m? This is a no brainer.

If I was GGG and thought I could beat Ward I would have fought for the extra million. But some fighters dare to be great.

Cool story bro. Now don't cry when Cotto or Canelo ask u to make 155 or 157. Idc if it's a unification title fight. GGG and co are about money right??? That why only Froch or Jr can get it at 168, Ward 164 ONLY. So when Cotto or Canelo get on their money **** don't start b1tching. WBC can strip them if they want and announce Golovkin as the full mw champ on Facebook. Think that bull**** takes him to the next level?? Nah..... Regular HBO vs cans is all I see in Gi Gi's future.

I'm just saying, it's not a style sellable on PPV. You gotta have a very strong A side, and apparently GGG is not it, yet.
So let's not say what casuals like when they bought FMJ vs Berto or was that just hardcore fans?
GGG will not be a strong A side unless he gives in to either Cotto or Alvarez demands and actually beats them. No one is going to pay anything to see him fight C-level competition.

Golovkin has said he has no interest in Chavez in April 15. The negotiations/talks with Ward went through June 15 before they broke down because Ward stated he needs tune ups first.
Everyone acts as if Golovkin still has desire to fight that fattie today. Ever since his title contention gained legitimacy (signing of Lemieux fight), he has not expressed any desire in anyone besides other MW title holders (and Floyd, but that's self explanatory)
First it was this, Golovkin: I'll fight anyone at 154, 160, 168
http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/box...-at-154160-168
Then Andre Ward announced his comeback.
Then it became this, " Nobody at 154/160 can go 12 rounds with Golovkin "
http://www.mma-core.com/videos/Abel_...ht_us/10102303
Then Cotto/Canelo both insisted upon a catchweight.
So now it is, " Gennady Golovkin eyes unification at middleweight "
http://www.ibtimes.com.au/boxing-new...titles-1476074
When the Golovkin hype-train left the station, most fans were under the impression that GGG actually wanted to fight guys like Ward/Cotto/Canelo.
