everybody has got to know haymon's plan longterm involves putting the sanctioning bodies out of business.
and yet haymon is accumulating sanctioning body world champions like there's no tomorrow... and the organizations continue to move his fighters up the rankings...
the whole thing is very odd.
But this is old news. This is from May 2014. I remember this cuz I was excited for like 2 seconds about something alphabet group related for the first time ever.
The WBC wants a unique world champion
To be champion from the World Boxing Council, World Boxing Association, The World Boxing Organization and of the International Boxing Federation, a unification revalues the label of being considered the world champion.
This is the proposal that the WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman is working on and why he sought to meet with the Presidents of the other boxing organizations.
“We will work on this proposal. The word “world champion” has lost its meaning. We will work on a proposal to make a tournament to have one world champion. If the other organizations want to have a champion from their organization it's ok but let's have a one an only world champion,” Sulaiman said.
The President of the WBC has had talks with the heads of the other organizations, who have shown an interest in this project. The next step is to find a common date for the four presidents to meet.
In the history of boxing the WBC has worked closely with the WBO, WBA and IBF to recognize a single champion. It supported Mike Tyson in the heavyweight divison, Bernard Hopkins in the middleweight division and the "Super Six" Tournament for the super middleweight boxers.
I believe they had a couple meetings last year about it & the WBA or WBO was completely or almost completely against it or didn't even show up & the other groups were like "eh interesting idea" & nothing has become of it in over a year. You mentioning it via this thread is the first I've heard of it in awhile.

Here's more. Looks like they had their first "summit" in June 2014 about this. WBO was the holdout looks like.
The president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaiman , and President of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), Daryl Peoples , and executive vice president of the World Boxing Association (WBA), Gilberto Jesus Mendoza , lead the first Summit meeting of presidents of world bodies sanctioning the sport of boxing, which has been held this Monday morning, in the conference room of the “Business Center” Grand Oasis Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Mendoza arrived late to a meeting, for delays in the Cancun airport, on his flight from Panama hours. WBA President Gilberto Mendoza not attend.
“Really this summit brand boxing history, as we meet the three major professional boxing organizations and we will be addressing topics of interest for the benefit of this exciting sport in the world, that’s the main goal,” said Mauricio Sulaiman to Notifight.
Besides Sulaiman and Peoples McAleenan presidents and director, also participate in this meeting, behind closed doors, managers Mike McAleenan (AMB), George Martinez (AMB), Miguel Prado (AMB), Rex Walker (CMB), Victor Silva (CMB), Alberto León (CMB), Juan Sanchez (CMB), Linda Torres (FIB) and Lindsey Tucker(IBF).
The meeting began at 9 AM, local time, and issues being addressed issues of common interest to the three global agencies.
Were not disclosed to the press an official agenda, but will be given details of everything discussed and agreed at a press conference scheduled for 4:30 PM local time.
The meeting serves as a framework to strengthen ties between the leaders of international boxing and lay the groundwork for unification of criteria in the future.
Furthermore, it is understood that issues such as recognition of the unique world champion, the use of “instant replay” to verify cut, regulation of gloves and the incursion of IBA in professional boxing were played, among others.Last edited by Eff Pandas; 11-01-2015, 05:50 AM.

2. Orgo's are latching on to the dude who has the money. They'll ride it as long as they can and then move on. WBA even made a garbage title to hand to LSC/Mares winner

This is quite old news, when Sulaiman's son took over, he said he wanted to sit down with the other recognised organisations and unify titles..that was almost a year ago. I highly doubt it happens and I highly doubt it happens via Haymon and PBC.

but i don't remember the wbc announcing anything had been agreed to or that there would be a new kind of championship, the premier championship . . .
who can make a premier championship first? wbc or haymon?
I suspect the WBC is more likely to make a premier title first the way things are lined up.
Haymon's two biggest goals right now should be finding new boxing fans & bringing the best non-PBC fighters into the PBC fold. Haymon's next biggest goals with this PBC thing shouldn't even be a title. Thats long game stuff. He needs a bigger roster of elite level talent before a title would mean anything.
Sulaiman just needs to get one more a$$hole in a room & 4 a$$holes to agree to make this happen. Although I suspect a WBC led unified premier champ would still have some weird angles to it that would make it less than ideal vs starting over & having one title.

Whats this? This something from that French Canadian journalist who claimed Haymon was about to start giving out PBC belts months & months ago?
Although with how Haymon operates I wouldn't be surprised if he isn't giving guys behind the scenes belts & **** that are on the DL & more like a cong**** for the big W & I appreciate you type things. Haymon seems like a guy who gives a f#ck about the boxers on a level most people in his sorta position seldom seem to do with actions & how they talk about them. I mean the reality is any moron with some money can make some belts & just hand them out to strangers. They don't have to mean anything.

I still think its years away from being something up for grabs in a fight. Or if its not years away it won't mean anything & will be a lesser title cuz PBC's roster isn't THAT strong. Overall I think it'd create more negative attention than positive & could even bite them in the ass if they were to start having PBC title fights too soon.

2016 has the potential to suddenly see 4 unified champions in Golovkin, Gonzalez, Klitschko, and Kovalev. Unprecedented in modern times. Hopefully the orgs act appropriately and support this and adjust their 5% fees per fight. No way should a champion pay 20% of his purse to be a champion.
