Kovalev is an active reigning champion, who's recent big wins are against Hopkins & Pascal. Ward? He's a recently reactivated fighter who is rated as a top P4P, based on a big fight that he won 3 years ago. That win was against someone who has since tanked (Dawson). Who is in need of greater preparation for whom?

It's the undercard of a huge PPV fight where you're not going to be able to pay a top opponent. Ward's next fight will probably be his own show so the opponent will need to be a lot better.
