Comments Thread For: Smith's Trainer Rules Out Mosley Bout For December

Trainer Joe Gallagher believes Liam Smith versus Shane Mosley is a headline fight and should take place at Anfield next year.

Smith became WBO world super-welterweight champion when he stopped John Thompson in the seventh round on October 10 and has already been called out by legendary three-weight world champion Mosley (48-9-1-KO40), who is now 44.

Smith's trainer Gallagher told Sky Sports: "Shane Mosley has been out for a while and has only had that one fight against Ricardo Mayorga. I don't think he's rated at the moment but what he's done in boxing still stands strong.

Getting kinda annoying how many trainers come out talking like business managers. 'The fight needs to be in May and top of the bill and at Anfield' as if any of that stuff is the trainer's right to decide. It has the potential to be a good undercard fight, not sure it's some stadium super-fight. Froch-Groves got too many people carried away it seems.

147 year old, punch drunk Shane Mosley? Nah, that's a super summer stadium showdown, that is. We need at least one or two more fights with some nondescript bums to build for that mega event first.

To paraphrase Morrissey, I hope Joe Gallagher ends up at the bottom of an M3 pile-up.
