  • Comments Thread For: Garcia: Canelo Bout Has Been Mentioned For Rios

A few days ago, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum informed BoxingScene.com of a possible fight scenario for 2016.

On November 7th, WBO welterweight champion Timothy Bradley (32-1, 12KOs) will face Brand Rios (33-2-1, 24KOs) in an HBO televised bout from the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

The winner could be in line for a lucrative opportunity against the winner of the November 21 showdown between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

... So: Garcia (Rios) would ask Canelo to come down at 152?... Again?...

... I can't even believe that I'm reading something like this...

GB must really be low on options. If they fight a MW it either has to be Lemeuix or GGG, and all of 154 belongs to Haymon except Andrade and he wold more than likely beat Canelo. They're stuck between a rock and a hard place and it sounds like they're choosing the most shameful option.

Make sense Rios been an option for Cotto since the Before Rios Pacquaio fight. So if its an option for the middleweight champion of the world should be a valid option for the junior middleweight Canelo.

If Canelo fights Rios or Bradley after beating Cotto he'll only be further exposing himself.

              Straight shook.

if they actually want to fight golovkin, just not right now, they could do him a favour and take out his ibf mandatory, tureano johnson, who signed with gbp last year. it would be a good testing the waters fight too. of course that would make way too much sense...

Yes. It definitely wouldnt be a good look. Avoided his mandatory at MW and instead took on a blown up WW.

I honestly think Bradley presents more difficulties for Canelo than Rios, but Alvarez beats either guy.

Rios would be outclassed and stopped before the late rounds, Bradley would see the final bell but he wouldn't ever be able to make Canelo respect his punching power.

But this goes back to what I've thought all along... The opposition beneath Canelo in weight are starting to dry up here. None of this looks like must-see boxing. If it's Rios then Canelo fans will watch just to kick back and see a KO. I guess that's okay?

I really wouldn't care if I saw either of these potential fights live or not.
