I really don't understand why people are getting worked up over this fight...
It's an undercard tune up fight on three weeks notice to get rid of some ring rust. Get over it. It's in preparation for bigger, better fights next year, so let him get his tune ups in because, in all likelihood, it means we'll be seeing the best fight at 175 not far away.
Everyone has ****ty tune ups. Kov just fought Mahommedi, who hadn't fought anyone with a pulse ever and was a ****ing bum. This was a stay busy fight and not even a tune up for him while coming off years of inactivity and injury.
No one *****ed about that because we know that he has fought good fighters before and will be building up to more big fights in the future. Guys coming off years of inactivity and injury should be given much more leeway if we know they are willing to get in there with the best when it matters, and Ward has and will again.
We know Ward is willing to take on the best, so getting rid of some ring rust while the biggest, best goddamn fight at 175 gets negotiated and made is perfectly fine.
He gets an easy fight on a big platform to get some rounds in, get his face back out there and prepare for the best fight possible next year. It's not as if it's just opponent after opponent like this. He's been out with all sorts of issues for years, so a couple of easy tune ups, particularly one on very short notice should be cool, because we know that it's leading somewhere huge!
Frankly, I don't care what happens in the meantime, because I just want to see Ward get a couple of fights under his belt at 175 so we can see Ward/Kov next year. ****ing great! Such a good fight. Kov is a beast and Ward has been out for ages, so he'll need some tune ups if he is to get back to his best to compete with Kov. If he just jumped straight in, he'd probably just get blasted out.
I'm certainly not going to criticise Kov for having a few ****ty fights like Nadjib Nobody, while he prepares to lay waste to the best guys at 175. Just the same, I'm not going to criticise Ward for taking a late notice tune up to get rid of ring rust and get back in the mix, test the waters at 175 and shake off his inactivity, so we can all see Ward/Kov down the track soon.
Get over it you wackjobs. This is leading to the best fight at 175 in many, many years.
