Cotto? I don't care about him. This Canelo fight is his last fight at MW.
I understand that. Think about this bro.... Which of these two makes Golovkin a star right now?? Beating Cotto Canelo winner in a big time fight or WBC announcing he's now the full champ on Facebook??

basically, why fight at middleweight if you're not going to fight at middleweight?

I didn't say he wasn't. But it was Sanchez, not Loeffler. but no one said they didn't want Cotto/Canelo. They're just saying they're after the belts. Of course they hope it's against one of them for the reasons you mentioned.
      Well, it should.....

And it would if catchweights were abolished.

But they are here, and they are accepted unfortunately.

So to give you an honest answer I would say risk/reward.

Those guys are too experienced and too well-established to give away such a huge advantage to a beast like Golovkin.

Neither of them are real middleweights, or even close really.

Cotto weighs 153, he is a JMW who is punching above his weight..... and Canelo fights JMW's who agree to come in 1lb over.

Calling either of them a middleweight is " convenient " at the moment..... but it is still a huge stretch.

Everyone is hung up over Cotto because they think he took Golovkins shine by accidentally picking up the lineal/WBC strap in a money fight with injured Martinez.

And Canelo has been chasing a Cotto fight long before Cotto got lucky against Martinez.

And yet very few people seem to think that Golovkin should be a man of his word and accept a reasonable catchweight from the lil guys.

Maybe they will, lets wait and see I suppose.

You haven't faced a top opponent your whole career. You tell the biggest threat to make a weight you know he can't or else **** off.

Now comes the reality check. Those stars you've been chasing have basically told you the same thing you told your biggest threat. And clearly, they will give two ****s about any belt after November. So what's it to be GGG? Unify versus the dregs of the division and continue your quest to rid the world of all C-class opponents? Or step up?

157 in my opinion is a fair meeting point. Problem is, although Canelo would be much more comfortable making 157, he'd rather risk kidney failure and demand 155 just so that it takes something out of GGG.

If Canelo prefers 155 then cool. Weigh in at 155 and let GGG weigh in where he usually weighs in at. Canelo is a full fledged MW hiding out at 155 and for that I have no sympathy for him.

Because when they decided to offer Ward a 164 catchweight, despite agreeing to 168 for Froch/JCC Jr, they said they would only fight 154-168 for a BIG FIGHT! Is Canelo not a big fight? Canelo has spoken and if GGG and team decide to stand firm they better have a plan B. Tureano Johnson and the winner of Lee/Saunders isn't gonna get it.

If both stand firm both have something to lose. GGG will miss out on a fight that would propel him to stardom while Canelo will look like a scared chump in front of the entire boxing world. For someone with as much pride as Canelo that would sting.

I'm still trying to wrap my head around how the bigger man is asking the smaller man for a lower CW. Catchweights were put in place to even the playing field between 2 fighters 1 weight class apart. One fighter come a few lbs down while the other come a few lbs up and meet in the middle. In this case both fighters are in the same weight class!

If Canelo and GGG are really the same size then both should be able to make 155 comfortably.

I just don't see any good fights for Canelo without moving up at this point. I don't think he should just move to 160 and fight GGG out the gate, but this is an inevitability.

I think it's probably true Canelo's natural size falls in this unfortunate limbo between being a gigantic welterweight and a slightly small middleweight, but his skill still gets him W's against a lot of the top 10 guys in either division.

Also- I don't think GGG is a particularly big middleweight. Him and Canelo look like they're a very similar stature to me.

Problem is, they don't want to fight him at the full 160. GiGi has realized that he doesn't have to participate in that but he also won't go anywhere either this way.
In a way your right...but I think golovkin could have a better option ...if he wins all the belts and is undisputed champion then he can offer the catchweight fight to canelo...say in a years time or so.....canelo is bigger can't even make 155 anymore.....triple has all the titles and then have a catchweight fight at 157 when it's actually fairer....your alot stronger negotiating as undisputed champion and out of golden boys hands ....simples
