  • Comments Thread For: Canelo: Cotto Wanted Our Bout To Have His Title at Stake

Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32KOs) was gunning for a career defining opportunity against Miguel Cotto (40-4, 33KOs) for a long time. He says the WBC middleweight championship which Cotto owns was secondary.

Canelo tried to get Cotto in the ring in 2013, 2014 and earlier this year. A deal was eventually reached a few months ago.

So, Canelo just confirmed the position they took earlier.

They have no interest whatsoever in 160.

Lol. Canelo does whatever the **** he wants. He created his own weight class and doesn't give a **** about a belt.

He would decapitate Lara. No reason to think Lara has business above 154.

Ward is a LHW who just got shut down trying to fight a young, inexperienced 168lber at 175. It's been 2 years since Ward has even made 168, and longer than that since he's had any significant wins at that or any weight, why are we putting him so heavily in the conversation with a career MW?

Shrug I mean I'll be the first to admit that Team GGG's statements have been a mess but that doesn't mean that the GGG-Ward fight makes sense right now. I felt differently when it appeared that the Smith fight was a step on the way back to 168 but in reality Ward is transitioning into LHW.

Scared of Lara? Maybe he's scare of twisting his ankle from having to chase the chicken all over the ring. As for ward,he's too busy preparing for kovalev by dragging 23 year olds up from 168 to 175.

Belt is going straight in the trash can; then everyone will say "Gennady ducked Canelo/Cotto!!"
