    In Defense of Deontay Wilder....

How easy do people forget he had only 33 amateur fights? He's basically been on a learning curve since he turned pro. Compare him to an amateur sensation like Alexander Povetkin that was carefully matched throughout most of his career as well.

Winning the world title is somewhat a gift and a curse because it forces him on the fast track when he probably needs a little more polishing.

But winning a world title and a bronze medal in only 60 or so fights is nothing short of impressive.

It's fun to clown his opposition but sometimes you have to see the big picture and give this guy some credit.

Yea, but for me that usually goes out the door for me when they win a title.

If you learn on the job, do it when you don't have a title

That is impressive...JCC Jr was on a long learning curve and last I checked still is...for 60 fights combined between ams and pros...that is truly impressive and to be a HW champ and olympic medalist...most veterans can't say that...and a lot of vets had their share of tomato cans...he answered the call against Stiverne and I believe he will answer the call against Povetkin as wel...

I don't know why people are getting so bent out of shape about the Povetkin fight. It probably benefits Povetkin for it to go to purse bids which means that a deal was never going to be agreed before the deadline.

The fight has to happen or he loses the title. Not really arsed who he fights in the interim.

He had only been boxing 2.5 years when he got to the Olympics.

Beating fighters who had trained since the age of 8 or 10 years old.

And the amateurs who beat him would get knocked out in the pro ranks.

He answered the questions against Stiverne and he's going to have to fight Povetkin by at least June. What's wrong with getting some extra work in between?

People will attack him no matter what he does. If he takes the time to develop his skills they say he's ducking, fighting bums, etc. If he steps up too soon and loses, they'll say he was never any good. He has to be the absolute best RIGHT NOW or they say he's just trash.

You look at a lot of fighters even with stellar amateur credentials that are moved at an even slower pace.

I think he's in part falling victim to hyoe of being the guy that can get Americans to watch heavyweight boxing again.
