They had no incentive previously and 150k PPV probably doesn't give them any added reason to make a fight with him. These guys don't give two ****s about a green belt, they want to get paid. Team GGG is trying to strongarm their way into a fight when they should be conceding to bigger stars.
Canelo fought Angulo and Lara on what amounted to 85/15 splits. Why would he give 30% of the take to a guy who couldn't even sell 100k PPV buys for his fight, and whose gate was so impressive that his promoter still hasn't disclosed what even a range on the live gate was?

Canelo can fight Anthony Mundine for the WBC 154 belt, give Mundine the Australian PPV rights and a nominal slice of the gate, and walk away with 90% of the event proceeds.

... why folks so severely ignore the scale in money for Cotto/Canelo vs the scale in money for Golovkin is beyond me. MGM Resorts paid out ~$15m for the right to host the fight at their venue, an amount that is likely more than triple what Golovkin was able to bring in for his entire event.

Yeah, sorry, all the people with the brain will trust what HBO is quoted on ESPN, not what Glaser says. But you can keep deluding yourself if it makes you feel better. I heard there's a singing goldfish in Arizona. You should go check it out.
First and foremost, HBO doesn't know how many buys the event did, because very few people, if any, made their PPV purchase through HBO; like every other PPV event in history, most folks made that purchase through Comcast or TWC or DirectTV or U-Verse or some other provider, who will then inform HBO of the final numbers as folks pay their cable/satellite bill.

DirectTV/Comcast/DISH/TWC/etc will have a far better understanding of the expected buys before anyone at HBO; Glaser seems to have a similar enough in to the actual cable providers that HBO/Showtime does.

So yeah, HBO (or Showtime) throwing out a false number to try and save face, while going back to a noted HBO spin asset at ESPN (Dan Rafael) isn't as ridiculous as you want to build it to be.

The final event number, as is the case with every PPV event in the history of PPV, likely won't be known for 16 months (as people pay their bill/get refunds on their bill/pay their bills late/default on payment of bill/cable provider write off as non-payment).

Glaser's source has seemingly pegged the number passing through the cable providers at 97k; HBO is hoping that the numbers still fall in line with the projection that they pushed to the public.

we'll see how things end up; based on the quiet behind the live gate and other avenues (notice how the press release harps about how Golovkin has drawn monster ratings internationally, yet none of the actual broadcasters in those countries have made any mention of the Golovkin fight doing anything spectacular), I'm guessing that the Glaser number is closer to the truth than HBO's hopes.

No he's not...he doesn't speak English well enough. Saying "good boy" 500 farking times because you refuse to use the Rosetta Stone your team purchased for you is killing the marketability. Even Cotto and Canelo make the effort to be able to give an interview that is comprehensible. Pacquiao was on a whole different level than what these guys think Golovkin is on in terms of appeal. Then again Pacman fought live dogs.

Who's Alvarez going to fight at JMW after Cotto? I would love to see him vs J-Rock or Jermall Charlo, but with a Haymon/GB lawsuit going on there are no JMW options for Canelo.

Alvarez struggles to make 154, let him fight Cotto 2x and then move up and fight MW's like Heiland, Chudinov, and the likes. He'll look good against those guys and ready himself for a mega-fight with Golovkin who by then will hold all 4 belts.

Gennady should take Lara up on his offer. The fight would do well in San Antonio where K2 wants to break him into new markets. Then take the Lee/Saunders winner in London, and then get Tureano out of the way (hopefully Johnson's forced to fight the N'Dam/Soliman winner before then).

None of those guys had Lemieux as a dance partner either. Judah had great name value in the boxing world and was considered a great competitive fight, not a massive mismatch like this was, Gatti was obviously a huge name in boxing and I remember how many fools there were that thought he'd beat Floyd. Usually guys make their debut PPV against quality names, Gennady didn't but I think for them it was more about getting the title and they anticipated small numbers.
