****** thread. If you've followed past HBO executives, they all expressed concerns over the viability of PPVs and would rather do it on subscription.

What you're looking for was fired by GBP, which was Schaefer, the guy synonymous to PPV desperation. I remembered him trying to make as many PPVs as possible. Broner vs Maidana, for example, was originally set for PPV, but was canceled as such and remained on SHO. Look at SHO now, it's struggling to survive despite the Floyd PPV's.

yeah, that's probably the better way to look at it.

        it's business.

pbc gotta pay to build their roster.

        inflates the prices.

haymon doing what he need to do but damn i wish he had better matchmakers, planners.

and schaeffer is not the answer either.

when i see top rank, i go "OH BOB WANTS THIS, BOB SETTING THIS UP"

like setting a retiring pac up to get whooped by t-craw. we see it a mile away. we understand the plan.

pbc need that. i don't understand the matchups they do.

For me is clear as the water that they are looking for a "star". And they know that while they do this hype with GGG they are going to find another guy to elevate him as the "next superstar". So IMO they aren't wasting time waiting for "this" other guy.

Do we need more PPV? nope. But do the networks need them? yes, as F@ck.

why? because they aren't willing to "overpay" guys just to see them fight. That's why this PPV was "mandatory" for Golovkin to unify. I don't know how are they gonna attract Lee to a regular payday.

Let's see how this plays out.

The roster is too thin. Think about it. What if they did all of this in 2015:

            Santa Cruz/Mares in February
            Russell/Selby in March

            Russell/Santa Cruz in June

Then who would the winner of Russell and Santa Cruz fight in December, and in 2016, 2017 and 2018?

No one promoter has enough depth to run on their own and continuously make competitive fights. They need each other.

I don't think they could execute a transition plan as they needed Floyd undefeated for the opening of the new MGM (my theory) and the 50th fight.

Yes, PBC does need to strengthen their boxing related infrastructure. I like the fact that there have been upsets of rising prospects and older vets. That shows matchmaking isn't terrible. But it does need improvement.

                haymon was record producer right?

he got the money end down.

he need to steal top rank matchmaker.

top rank is damn good at building young guys the right pace.

i think cotto's mediocre ass was their masterpiece.

No. There is no need to be desperate.

                  They have kovalev
                  GGG
                  Crawford
                  Gonzales
                  Donaire
                  Lomachenko
                  Walters
                  Postol
                  Mathysse
                  Wlad

PPvs or not there are good fights and goof fight cards to put on. HBO is quality boxing.

And no fights for any of them. Kovalev only has Ward, Crawford and Postol have each other, Donaire has nobody, Loma and Walters have each other, Matthysse has Pac and Wlad has Fury. After those fights, then what?

The only fighter they can keep busy against top opposition is Roman.
