HBO desperate for PPV Stars?

how is replacing ppv fighters with new ppv fighters "getting desperate"? they did the same thing with pac.
i think the problem with ggg vs lemiuex is overlapping fanbases. their was no serious rivalry building there. the floyd/pac rivalry had lots of polarizing factors and separate fanbases and even became overtly racist at times.
golovkin needs a real rival, he can't carry it alone. The way everyone hopped on the Ward thing when most realized how generally pointless and difficult to set up that fight would be shows the desperate need for a nemesis.Comment

they've been cutting their boxing budget for 15 yrs.
reason? HBO PPV. which isn't part of that accounting.
hbo is still biggest boxing budget of any network.
arum complains always.
especially since ggg, roman, kov, etc. aren't top rank.Comment

Well i think the prices in America are insane. In the UK, i think the highest we have had for a PPV fight was £19.95, which is about $30. Usually it's less.
$100 is daylight robbery.
Also we have BoxNation which is £10 a month which in the next month or so will show Crawford, Povetkin, Cotto v Canelo, Bradley v Rios. Not bad value at all. Plus you can just cancel the subscription if there's nothing good coming up, then re-new again when there is a good month ahead. It also had all the Floyd showtime fights, apart from Manny and many others.Last edited by deathofaclown; 10-23-2015, 07:51 AM.Comment

Yeah, I kinda agree with this, but we shouldn't be cool with people fighting in a blood sport and not being compensated for their risk. I do a happy dance when I skirt by normal PPV protocols and watch fights for free, but who ultimately pays?Comment

The reason GGG vs Lemieux was on PPV was most likely cuz of HBO's budget more than trying to make him a PPV star. Although trying to make him a PPV star is byproduct of throwing this on PPV. This card woulda cost like $4M to put on HBO & HBO gots a $30M-$40M budget for the year & their have been rumors HBO has had lotsa budget issues this year. And judging by HBO ending their year having a main event fight with a guy, Luis Ortiz, who just made $120k on this very PPV we are talking about, I think its probably correct.Comment

there are/were smaller ppv in $20 range.
$100 was a one time thing for pac-may.
don't listen to a lot of these guys. most don't know what they're talking about.
there's been 3. THREE ppv on hbo/sho all year.
1 hbo/show for pac-may
1 hbo ppv ggg-lemieux
1 show ppv may-berto
these fools act like everything is ppv. my guess is most ppl whining don't even have regular hbo/showtime so don't know.Comment
