  • Whats ruining Boxing and what keeps it afloat?

Biggest fights happen online and in the media not in the ring nowadays.

    Racism runs bigger than ever.

Its a free for all with no real oversight. Its the only professional sport in the world where the champions get to PICK who they want to fight. So long as this continues this sport will never become mainstream again and be taken seriously.

Imagine if a team like the Bluejays make it to the World Series vs the mets but stipulate that Daniel Murphy isnt allowed to play and the entire series must take place in their home town or else there's no game.

The mets only get 6 batter per inning
And the jays only need 2 outs not 3 to get back up to bat.

Oh and the jays get to have a 4th outfielder.

Yeah i agree. Its a shame. This isbthe worst the sport has ever been . The top fighters in the last 5 years helped it get this way.

      A side B side C side and
      Catchweights
      Picking gloves for your opponent.

      Peds
      Iv's
      Hometown cookings
      Judging is horrible

This sport has no true foundation except corruption.

"Superfights" like Pacquaio-Mayweather being hyped to boxing casuals and then not living up to expectations.

Whatcha mean twitter fights???? LOL idk about twitter fights or presser/media **** being bigger than a Floyd or Manny weigh in. Its always helped make fighters & promoters more money getting cats to come to their fights, but plenty of fights still sell themselves & sometimes those twitter beefs or presser outbursts just help make a big fight bigger.

          Racism runs bigger than ever.
Jack Johnson, Archie Moore, Ray Robinson & Muhammad Ali would probably all disagree. Racism seems at all all time low in society & people are judged on their merits more than they've ever been (granted sometimes those merits are styles of dress or religion of choice, which can often just be a cover for some people's racism, but things are going in the right direction).

Casuals don't follow day to day news stuff like catchweights, PED testing, negotiations, purse splits, etc. I'd be shocked if many even know that weight classes exist. How many times have you heard "Tyson would wreck Mayweather"?

            What kills boxing is:

            1. Bad decisions in front of millions
            2. Underwhelming fights in front of millions
            3. Blatant corruption in front of millions

This is why I'm a big fan of tennis. You know that at every open, the best have to face the best. Imagine if Djokavic makes it to the finals then says he wants to play the guy that got bumped in the quarter finals rather than the opponent who sits at the top with him.

I love the sport of boxing but its turned into a joke with all the promotional fueds, network fueds, stipulations, a-side/b-side crap, etc...

Its a shame when UFC is more organized than a sport that's been around for over 100yrs longer.

What keeps it afloat - Human beings' innate fascination with violence

What ruins it - Complete lack of centralized control and regulation

As a sport it's closer to underground fighting than the NFL.

The UFC has nowhere near the cultural history or popular appeal of boxing, but in organisational terms it kicks the **** out of it weekly.

                    Great analogy.

You'd need a NFL of boxing type league for this to change & it seems most are still against that. Or the most vocal people are the ones who talk about it anyway.

If you know much about the MMA, imagining a UFC-like system in boxing operating with that sorta structure has to be nearly dream-like for all the fights that would go down & happen on a monthly basis. It'll happen eventually I think, but some of us may have died in our sleep or have dementia by then.
