You can't say that about the purse bid being career high anymore. Roc Nation has shown they're willing to pull out big money for big fights so Kovalev could potentially get paid. And there was more to it than that because Duva wanted to maintain relationships with HBO.

Stevenson backed out well before Kovalev did (and it was really Duva who backed out). I'm sure Kovalev would've fought if he didn't have Duva as a promoter. Stevenson has a history with being very difficult with Hopkins and Pascal too so not like it hasn't been going on for a while now.

This is entirely a network dispute. It's clear that neither side is going to cave - Main Events demand HBO, Haymon/Michel will never allow Adonis to fight on a non-PBC affiliated channel. At least Main Events is being transparent about it; Haymon and co. are pretending and posturing behind the purse bid idea, which they know the Kovalev team can't accept because of their HBO-exclusive deal.
