I will say I didn't know that Ortiz is damn near Klitschko's age. 36. Wow.

But it doesn't diminish his win. He looked great and should do well. But Wlad had a long run and he wasn't always boring and he didn't always clinch. He destroyed several guys and well, Ortiz did some cheating himself tonight. The sad truth is that they all cheat to a point. I don't agree with it, but this is a fight. On the street, guys always cheat and should. In the ring, they shouldn't but the street comes into the ring often. And I think Klitschko should have been penalized in the Povetkin fight more often to keep him honest. Could have been a different fight. Then again, it might not have.

Wlad had longevity and consistency. Ortiz is explosive and exciting which is great. I love it. Wlad was not that way, although he did score plenty of knockouts. They're two very different fighters. One reason this was more exciting may be because we weren't watching two behemoths who tend to fight slow. These were normal sized heavyweights who produce more explosive excitement. 6'4 isn't short by any means, but it isn't 6'7 and above like so many of the big boys these days. The age of the behemoth might be losing steam.

Of course not man but the point i was making by mentioning his nationality is that it's an indicator that this is a well schooled, fundamentally sound fighter from a country known to produce talent and coupled with the rest of his attributes, it makes for a dangerous heavyweight.

wlad's not from the street. he clearly developed this cheating strategy after being ko'd 3 times and working with steward. while he was developing his cheating clinch strategy, ortiz was developing real boxing skills: foot movement, punch variety like that uppercut, great timing, etc...

Just like how GGG and Kovalev haven't been tested yet. So I don't believe in their power

                  • Ortiz will probably lay waste to Fury and be able to UD Wlad unless he can bounce WAY back also.

He wouldn't even BOTHER with bloody Wilder, that would not even be worth a drop of piss in the desert at this stage.

I think only if David Haye or Wladimir Klitschko can come back in force like several years ago that Ortiz can be stopped from HW glory in the near future.

Of course his age means any reign will not be dramatically long.

The main reason Ortiz can fight more aggressively than Klitschko is because of the difference in chin.

And I consider Klitschko to have a STRONG chin (in fact it's obvious he does) but it's not strong enough to be fighting savagely at HW in this day and age.

Ortiz has a measure of skill, power, range, strength, speed AND chin. A very balanced set of attributes to contend with.

I think we have a Rid**** Bowe 2.0 on our hands maybe.

                    • What a performance by Ortiz! He totally proved me wrong. Bryant fought bravely as he always does but he was just up against a force of nature tonight. Ortiz is a scary, scary man and his skills look totally legit. To a degree Bryant made it easy for him with his predictable offence, rushing in and leaving himself open for the counter, but credit to Ortiz, he stayed calm and got the job done like a pro. Great fight and great performance. And with the goddamn flu as well!

It's a shame Ortiz is so old in heavyweight terms, as I'd love to see him in a few more big fights before facing Fury. He'd absolutely merc any of the shorter heavyweights like Chisora, Takam, Stiverne, etc, and I don't fancy Povetkin would want to get in there with him any time soon. Fury I'd pick to beat him right now, but the fight needs some seasoning before it's ready, and Fury has the Wlad rematch to deal with first so that's not happening any time soon.

I hope that no-one ducks him now, besides Wilder of course. The heavyweight division is heating up like an oven, and I can't wait to see some of the great fights we might see in the future.
