Comments Thread For: Kovalev-Pascal Rematch Scenario Explained By Bedard

It was announced over the weekend that a rematch between Sergey Kovalev and Jean Pascal would have a reprisal of their March match-up that saw 'the Krusher' stop Pascal in eight rounds at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

While this was an entertaining affair, it was a one-sided contest and most observers and fans feel a bit letdown with this sequel which is scheduled for January 30th for HBO.

This fight doesn't need to happen again. Kovalev clearly dominated. Pascal looked shot against Gonzalez. He's taken to much punishment over his last two fights. Sure he ran to Stevenson to get some of that PBC money because his time is running out. There is absolutely no reason for this fight to happen. He won't last longer than he did the first fight. Did Pascal find a new trainer yet?

Dont have a big problem with this fight.

It is a lucrative stay-busy fight for Kovalev, but one that he should take seriously..... and it gives Pascal a chance at redemption.

Its likely the best fight we can get considering that Stevenson/Ward are out of the equation for now. Maybe Pascal should fight Fonfara, and Kovalev should fight Beterbiev..... I dunno.

pascal is the only one ive seen to actually fight back and try to win vs Kovalev .everybody else clams up and hope to survive

i give him that respect, but it was still a brutal beating and i dont see much different happening in rematch.

whoever beats kov will have to be perfect for 12 rounds, that means not getting hit flush at all..as soon as he lands that first shot, its over

salute to pascal for wanting a rematch

Hopkins fought better than Pascal. Where's the Hopkins rematch?

I don't even mind another fight but not so soon. If Pascal redeemed himself with a good win against a top fighter at 168/175, THEN I don't mind a fight. But he lost his last fight.

The obvious choice to do this was Kovalev vs Gonzalez in January/February then Kovalev vs a Mandatory as a stay busy fight while Pascal fights Ward in like June/July. Then Kovalev vs the winner of Pascal/Ward in October/November like HBO planned.

Pascal put up a good fight but he clearly lost. This reminds me of Khan screaming for a rematch after Danny iced him in 4 rounds.
