  • Comments Thread For: Steve Cunningham to Drop Back Down to Cruiserweight

Steve Cunningham’s best days were at cruiserweight, where he twice held a world title before moving up to heavyweight in 2012. Now he’s looking to go back to where he had his greatest success.

“I talked with the team, and we made the decision — we’re going to go back down at cruiserweight and become a three-time world champion at cruiserweight,” Cunningham said Sunday at the Briscoe Awards in Philadelphia, according to a brief video posted on Instagram by Darryl Cobb Jr.

Great to hear. He can still make some waves at CW, although there are some killers there who will give his shaky chin a lot of trouble - guys like Chakhkiev, Glowacki, Kudryashov, etc. A Huck rematch makes the most sense.

      Good for Cunningham.

CW division is much better suited for him. The fighters in the division are all relatively the same size as him whereas in the HW division he was very small and his punches were pitter patter.

Smart move. The heavyweight division is too dangerous. Hope he can still make the weight.

I hope he can get paid well at CW... There is a new breed of killers there that have grown while he was grazing on HW pastures... I'd give Cunningham a shot against Chahkiev and maybe Glowacki, but not Lebedev or Drozd... Good luck to USS..

Wish he would have sooner...he is close to 40 and darn near everytime someone tried to go back in weight class they got blitzed or looked terrible

                Good luck buddy

Oh man, Cunningham-Lebedev... A dream fight that never happened.

Maybe now's the time! And if I stop to think about it, regarding Chakhkiev, if Cunningham could survive the early found-round danger, that's also a winnable fight for him. Wlodarczyk doesn't seem to be doing anything either - make the threematch.

Not sure it matters at this point he's getting awfully close to the end

Huck could be a good matchup
