Comments Thread For: Lemieux's Trainer Slams Ref For Not Penalizing Golovkin

Knockdown or not, Lemieux should have been given up to 5 minutes due to the foul and it warranted a point deduction from GGG. That being said, this had no effect on the outcome. Lemmy was outclassed from the opening bell, GGG proved superior.

Breaking the rules has nothing to do with the turnout... Golovkin threw a hard punch to a guy on his knee who was not defending himself because he was waiting for the ref to interfere, do his job and count... It's that simple...
Any way you put it it was not fair for the other boxer, Lemieux or anyone else... More time to recover, a point deduction, anything may have change the fight from there... GGG knew very well what just happened... I mean just look at his guilty face right after the punch...Last edited by Superbee; 10-19-2015, 05:45 PM.

A foul is not a get out of jail free card. The rules are already written to protect against such abuse. This isn't soccer you cant flop.

A DQ is a stain on the sport, a failed event basically. To qualify the offense would have to be either ..... very blatant and damaging, a repeated offense, or a repeated problem..... none of which are the case.
A point deduction and 5 mins recovery are whats up.

I like all this. It feeds the image. Golovkin is a killing machine in the ring. Methodical mayhem.
I honestly think he was so deep into fighting mode that he did not notice Lemieux taking the knee. It was unexpected.
A delayed reaction. Frightening because the man really doesn't see the humanity in his opponent. First he sees an enemy force to be dismantled one step at a time with no break in the proceedings for knees or quitting. Only death matters. Pain and weakness are irrelevant.

I feel like Lemieux's trainer is just being opportunistic here and trying to make excuses and soften the blow of his guy getting worked. And GGG detractors are jumping on the wagon just to have something to criticize him about. Dude's one of the cleanest, most respectful boxers I've ever seen.
I saw it happen in person, I saw it on the slo-mo replay on the big screen, and I've watched the russian broadcast of the fight several times over the last couple of days. It looked like Lemieux was backing off because he was hurt, Gennady moved in to throw a punch, David appeared to try to duck the shot he knew was coming, Gennady saw this and threw the punch at a lower level, and Lemieux's knee hit the canvas just before the punch landed. This all happened over the course of a single second. Accidental foul if I've ever seen one. He didn't deserve to lose a point for it.
And a DQ? Gtfoh. There would've been a riot in that fúckin place.
But I have to give David respect. There was a moment when he could've flopped around on the ground Broner-style and refused to continue, but he didn't. You could almost see him mentally make the decision to get up and fight on. Props to him for that display of testicular fortitude.Last edited by Contra; 10-19-2015, 10:25 PM.
