Golovkin will carry that stain for a long time... He had all the time to back off from connecting and didn't... Giving David some more time would have definitely help because even after being beat up fair and square he was connecting more as the fight went on... Not really a fight changer but who knows what would have happened to GGG after a point deduction and some recover time...It's all in the head after all...

It wouldn't have made a difference, but a point off and time to recover would have been better for both fighters and boxing in general. If Lemiux stays down he could have gotten a nc at least and a chance at another nice paycheck.

Lies.....Cant blame him for trying to save face though....Lemieux will save a few fans who actually believe that he lost because of this.....Outclassed from 1st round is what i saw....he cldn't even handle the power of GGG's jab...

If you guys watch the tape and see GGG's face, he clearly knew that was a mistake and looked at the ref nervously.

Rigo has been known to this and apologizes in the same manner. By bowing etc..

Usually fighters complain or protest if they truly think it was not a mistake as their hand is being raised when receiving a point deduction.

When Lemieux went down on the knee GGG rushed forward to take advantage of the shot. It's clear and present, and was a hard strike. I'm surprised Lemieux didn't fall back. Surely HBO didn't want to comment on it in the post ring fight...of course not, it's an HBO show. Why would Kellerman ask Lemieux, ''do you think the ref should've deducted a point or what do you think...etc..?''

No either the fighter who fouled is disqualified or you get 5 minutes to recover and if you do not continue you lose by abandonment.

A foul is not a get out of jail free card. The rules are already written to protect against such abuse. This isn't soccer you cant flop.

That was unfortunate. The ref should have taken a point away from GGG but it would not have mattered. If Lemieux was a opportunist he should have acted really hurt and GGG would have been DQ'd.

Ref didn't even give lemiuex time to recover from that punch. Yeah that ref is ****.

My thing is this...If the referee didn't penalize GGG for hitting Lemieux right on the chin while on his knee, then the referee shouldn't have stopped the fight the way he did.

RJJ's was way worse - he hit Griffin with two hard shots instead of one, and RJJ hit Griffin later after the guy went down in real time than did GGG in slow-motion time.
