Comments Thread For: Referee Explains Why He Saved Lemieux From Golovkin

It was a good stoppage.
Lemieux was taking a beating and his legs looked weak, then after the body shot he winced in pain, looked at the ref and hunched over whole sort of staggering back.
Correct decision.Comment

This was a freakin mismatch from the start. Oscar knew that it'd end this way. He simply cashed out on Leminuex for PPV payday. He sold hype. Glad I didn't buy into into it, while ppl paid to see a slaughter rather than competitive skillsComment

I always said that here... But they all came up with Ward's weight in morning of the fight... What is sure is the fact that in the E-Rod fight, Ward was way above 180 lb... Normally, this shouldn't represent a big issue for GGG... but as long as Ward would chose to use his usual "inside working" (i.e. lots of clinching and grappling) a 15 lb weight difference would mean quite a lot.Comment

Is it GGG's fault that there aren't many at 160 that could beat him? If he wants to unify the belts, let him. Just because he can beat anybody at 160, he should just move up to fight Ward and then retire? There's been plenty of great fighters who were much better than their competition, but stayed to clear out the division. It is not about spin, it is about recognising their is not a challenge at 160. I like watching GGG fight he is exciting but he has proven his fights have all been mismatches to date and only a fool gave Lemieux anything more than a punchers chance.
I understand he wants the big money fights and his team also, but lets not pretend the fights at 160 are exciting pick em fights. A fight against Ward is the only fight that I see beng competitive and that excites me, if him staying at 160 to unify against over matched opponents then great for you, but I will not pretend that is not sad.
I'm an avid Klitschko supporter and want to see him tested and challenged hence face the best guys available, Fury, Wilder, Joshua, Parker and Ortiz for instance, their is no one around GGG except above him, spin all you like believe what you like, yet when you're made to look a fool when GGG retires having avoiding the real testing fights don't moan when his career is picked on by critics.
Whats the rush here? GGG still isn't a household name and Ward is a nobody outside of boxing fans. Do people not understand boxing? A big fight like GGG-Ward, you can let that build. That can be a huge fight if promoted right. If GGG never fights Ward, then you can say all you want. But damn, dude is at the beginning of his stardom, lets see what he can do with it first.Comment

Didn't order the PPV and I see it went as expected. Figured Viloria would be valiant but outgunned. And that Lemieux would bring nothing to the table.
Would be nice to see the Estrada rematch. Gonzalez was underrated a year or two ago and guess what? Estrada is underrated now. I'm almost mad someone has to lose that rematch because they are two of the very best.
Now that GGG has gotten this tune-up out the way, I'm hoping we see some better fights next year. Maybe Andy Lee and then someone elite. And if he can't entice Cotto or Canelo, he needs to move up. He'll never step in the ring with Ward if his handlers can help it, but who wouldn't rather see him against DeGale, Dirrell, Groves or any other top super middle as opposed the bad talent at 160?Comment
