A lot of blame belongs to the media. I read something interesting the other day:

Here are two blurbs about a 1.3 million TV viewership from the same writer and website (I’ll spare the name, but it’s a highly-trafficked boxing site), the first regarding Golovkin’s last fight and the second regarding an Andre Ward bout…Mind you, BOTH have virtually the same viewership numbers:

“Gennady Golovkin delivered a strong TV rating this past weekend, continuing what has been a good year for HBO’s boxing brand…Gennady Golovkin’s win over Willie Monroe Jr on Saturday night kept HBO’s 2015 in boxing going strong in the Nielsens, with 1.338 million viewers…”

    but, regarding Ward?

“1.3 million watched the fight on HBO on Saturday, which is, to best of my knowledge, right about average for recent WCB fights — nothing special, but also avoids being one of those true turd in the punch bowl results…It’s definitely not some big hit…the TV number is … well, it’s adequate, let’s put it that way. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was some internal disappointment at HBO, no matter what they might say. “

Same writer, same numbers, way different twists.

At some point GGG will take on a challenge (we hope). But for now, we'll just have to sift through the bull****.
    Double standards at their finest.

Honestly, I like GGG as a fighter but this is the kind of crap that infuriates me. Whether it comes from his fans or the media.

How is that a double standard? Ward/Dawson was the undisputed SMW champ vs the undisputed LHW champ. Ward was coming off the S6 spot light and Dawson just had 1.6mill viewers in the Hopkins rematch. Golovkin/Monroe was a stay busy fight, yet got the same numbers.

Giving that context, I'd say the reporter was spot on - Ward/Dawson was a disappointment, while Golovkin/Monroe did surprisingly well. Double standard my ass...

Flo-mo's would call this media bias as well. Thing is Floyd earned this kind of shade.

They both got the same viewing numbers but one guy gets praised while the other gets put down. That's how.

You can try to play up "context" as much as you want but either 1.3 million is a good number or its not, for both of them.

This type of bias is common place in among boxing writers it appears HBO has massive amount of clout it would appear when they choose their darling those fighters don't really get criticized by the writers . Kov just pulled a peak of 1 million viewers his last fight but writers labeled it as solid. GGG pulls 1.2 - 1.3 it's great , Ward pulls in 1.2 - 1.3 is described as avg.

Matthysse / Postal did 640k with a drop off from the Oscazo/ Soto #s but there was no negative press. Rigo did 550k going against a stacked Showtime card and he's banished from the network.

It is bias, have you ever read anything from Dan about him wanting to get a pre fight shot of Toradol to get ready for the fight.

Ward was HBO's darling going into the Dawson fight, and that was a major fight. Ward's been on US tv for years building himself. There's reasonable expectations that when he fought another undisputed champion in Dawson, that it atleast get the same kind of numbers that Dawson got with Hopkins (1.6mill). Guys like Golovkin & Kovalev are fighting opponents with no clout and getting numbers like that.

And Rigo got bashed because of how he fought Agbeko. Fans literally walked out during his fight. And lets wait and see if HBO has Matthysse back. HBO just let Provodnikov walk rather than give him a showcase fight, so cut out that double standard BS.

Mayweather got his money from his marketing, from make you pay every time to see him lose and you repeated to buy his fights in hope to see him lose. Only thing happened is that he got richer and richer from your money and he didn't even lose.
What the hell are you talking about? I guess I'm sheep for enjoying GGG fights? Apparently I'm dumb for praising GGG's attitude and style of boxing? I didn't even mention Mayweather, so who's the dummy? Apparently you know that I paid for Mayweather fights and that he toyed with me. I've never paid for a Mayweather fight. I call that delusional on your part. Maybe you are bipolar, or just simply a hate monger, because I said nothing derogatory in my post. Good luck to you

HBO may have expected better numbers from Ward/ Dawson but Dawson / Hopkins doing 1.6 probably has more to do with Hopkins then Dawson, Hopkins / Kov did 1.5 Kov without B-hop , Kovalev does 1.0 - 1.2 but those are always good and solid #s right.

As far as the salt water comment, how can you not make fun of that comment but have you read Dan even question the injury excuse or questioned how long Pacs been using Toradol, Of course not because Dans a HBO / TR puppet so he won't cross that line.

Dan insinuating Floyd cheated for the fight off information that was reported a month and half ago but still throwing in jabs, anything to take away and discredit the win and Manny making a borderline re.tarde.d statement that even Roach made a joke of it there's kind of a difference.

The media is biased how they report things and your either dumb or blind if you can't see it.

Believe what you want and think that majority of mainstream boxing media writers & media are fair and balanced. But when people just regurgitate their info instead of thinking about it and forming their own opinion they come off as sheep.
