    Comments Thread For: De La Hoya: Mayweather Never Wanted To Fight Khan

    Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya still has a lot of respect for British star Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs).

    De La Hoya's company promoted Khan for several years and that relationship ended last December with Khan's victory over Devon Alexander.

    For at least two years of that relationship, Khan was attempting to get a shot at WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. (49-0, 26KOs).

          Would have been an easy W for Floyd...

          Khan got lucky he fought Maidana before Maidana polished his skills better... Otherwise it would have been another KO loss..

          Apart from that win, Khan beat a washed up Alexander with no punching power... and a washed up Zab who also lost to Malignaggi...

          Khan = overrated...

                read Oscar's book sometime

                He's about as smart as a pacquiao fan when it comes to anything regarding Floyd.

                FLoyd pretty much gave him an inferiority complex

                This wasn't some elegant little torch passing when FLoyd kicked his ass after proceeding to verbally humiliate him.

                The golden boy was deposed and turned bronze

                  Oscar is throwing water balloons behind his drug high induced bubble

                  He fumbled more so than any other fighter throughout his career. Oscar is more known for who he fought than he is for winning. lmao

                    Nice statements towards Khan.

                    "We promoted Amir Khan for many years and we had such a wonderful experience with Amir Khan. Amir Khan is one of my favorite fighters because he's willing to face anybody. He's one of those throwback fighters who trains very hard, very dedicated," De La Hoya told TalkSport.

                    "He'll go up against anybody. He was calling out Canelo Alvarez. He was calling out Miguel Cotto. He was calling out Mayweather, who I believe never wanted to fight Amir Khan. They were promising him Mayweather, but that fight was never going to happen. Amir Khan wants to fight the very best and he deserves to fight the very best."
                    Can't really argue with any of that. Khan definitely gots a lot of heart as we've all seen in his competitive fights & his L's. Even when he's barely able to move his body normally he's still trying to fight. He says a ton of nutty **** which diminishes from his actual abilities & heart I feel, but once he's in the ring I don't think you can argue with Oscar here.

                    As for Floyd not wanting to fight Khan...meh. Who cares. I didn't really wanna see that fight as I didn't think it'd be competitive & after awhile I kinda wanted to see it a lil, but purely to prove all those cats who felt like Khan would beat Floyd wrong. Its no great crime against boxing like Bowe vs Lewis not happening that Floyd vs Khan never went down I know that much. The bigger crime against boxing that Floyd committed was going out vs Berto when there were several more interesting (Porter & numerous others), compelling (Thurman or a Manny rematch in May) or historical fights (Cotto for a 6th weight division belt) that could've been made.
