Stop making excuses. You should be disappointed and want Selby to prove himself and not make excuses for when he looks like ****e.
Maybe he looked good because he cherrypicked by far the weakest beltholder in the division?
And no, Montiel isn't on some hellbent comeback streak.
Put someone worth a damn in against him, he won't see the bell.
He looked less than really impressive. But suddenly according to you and Corelone he is crap. I'm trying to add some perspective, what is your angle?

Selby has good boxing skills but has to work on that inside game, he won't get far without a inside game. Leo would tear him apart inside right now

On that performance he is not ready for Leo and definitely not Russell. Take the warrington fight and look for the mandatories and top ten contenders - sit on that belt for a while to gain more experience - although he is no longer young.

I've been watching Montiel fight for a looooooooooong time and I was thinking that if he was younger, he would have had a pretty good chance against Shelby. He used to be a great combination puncher and I saw flashes tonight, obviously at a bigger weight, but he definitely used to be a terrific fighter and I hope he can come back and still win a big fight or two.

As for Shelby he definitely has some developing to do and I don't know how well he'll fair at his age. But he's a very good athlete and I'm sure GRJ would LOVE to fight him.

Dominant win by Shelby my ass. A 36 year old Montiel who is tiny at 126 pounds made him look weak and sloppy. I had Montiel loosing by a couple rounds.

first time ive seen Selby and I have to admit , he is pretty good outside fighter. defensively flawed, vulnerable to left hook but he's all around solid fighter. IMO

if Montiel was in his prime he would have dropped Shelby and coasted to a nice decision. Was more impressed by Montiel loosing than Shelby winning.

My question is, where are we gettin that Selby was some high-class operator in the first place?
Gradovich was always an extremely limited stiff, getting his title doesn't prove much IMO.
He wasn't supposed to look bad here. This was a cherry-pick gone wrong.
Imagine if Montiel wasn't so old and shot. He would've layed out Selby tonight. Imagine if that actually been a better fighter and there are plenty of better fighters in the division.
                      "The Welsh Mayweather"
Montiel looked like the slicker guy in there.
