Fight could've gone either way for me, while Selby had the higher workrate, the majority of quality was coming from Montiel. Pretty much negated Selby's right hand in the first half of the fight with his short left hook counter. This caused the majority of Selby's punches to fall short in the first half, he was too concerned about the counters.
Montiel isn't the fighter he once was and is a couple of divisions up from where he had his best wins but I think he proved that once Selby steps up to the higher levels, he'll struggle. I thought this after the Simion fight but put it down as an off night whereas Montiel showed more of Selby's limitations.
Walters, Santa Cruz, Lomachenko and even Russell Jr beat Selby. I think Donaire has a good shot at KO'ing him but I think Selby's team are going to re-think that one after last night.
