Fight could've gone either way for me, while Selby had the higher workrate, the majority of quality was coming from Montiel. Pretty much negated Selby's right hand in the first half of the fight with his short left hook counter. This caused the majority of Selby's punches to fall short in the first half, he was too concerned about the counters.

Montiel isn't the fighter he once was and is a couple of divisions up from where he had his best wins but I think he proved that once Selby steps up to the higher levels, he'll struggle. I thought this after the Simion fight but put it down as an off night whereas Montiel showed more of Selby's limitations.

Walters, Santa Cruz, Lomachenko and even Russell Jr beat Selby. I think Donaire has a good shot at KO'ing him but I think Selby's team are going to re-think that one after last night.

I has Selby winning last night, although i feel the cards were a bit wide.
He wasn't at his best and Montiel pushed him hard.

I had him winning by two or three rounds but yeah the cards were way too wide. The judging and refeering was poor all night

For sure, the fight was very close lets bare in mind with Montiel
          Montiel was -
          • Smaller guy (weight)
          • Shorter guy with height and reach
          • A shop worn guy who has been through a lot of wars

All those things factored in and STILL Selby fought like a b1tch, seriously wtf man?
He should have been sitting down on his punches, why go over to USA and fight like that If you want to make a statement the crowd booed you for a god damn good reason.

On sky they were hyping up that bum Warrington for him. See they get it, thats a good place to start, thats his level.

On Frampton, well, one of his best wins, Chris Avalos, just got completely destroyed by an okay guy in Valdez. Quigg just blasted Kiko out too. So yeah, don't think that highly of Frampton either.
Alright, let's not go overboard. Selby beat a proven world class fighter to win a title, he's obviously world class.

Care to elaborate why Gradovich is a "proven world class fighter" exactly?
He was just a paper titlist who picked up a title off an even bigger paper titlist in Billy Dib. The same Billy Dib that lost to Luevano, had a super close fight with ****ing Mike Oliver, looked like dog **** against Miskirtchian and Velez and got smoked by Selby, who himself just had a ****load of trouble against an old, shot bantamweight in Montiel.
Gravovich was only there because Arum planned to feed him to one of his other guys. Didnt he just turn down a Walters fight? Yeah, that sounds like someone Arum was trying to build up and not use as a stepping stone for his actual world class guys.

This is going to end up in the same argument from that thread a couple weeks ago about Matthysse. If you're one of the 10-20 best in the entire world in a weight class, you're world class. Gradovich did that much, and so has Selby. if he wasn't world class he wouldn't even beat an old shot Montiel.

World class isn't the top 2 or 3 fighters in a division. it's much more than that.

I think out of all names Gary Russell Jr is the one to give Selby the worst beating out of the lot, his hands are rapid and he isn't scared of cutting distance that's a nightmare fight for Lee.

Ehh.. Montiel just had a razor-thin fight with Cristobal Cruz, but I digress.
If we're gonna put it that way, then thats fine. IMO, a little too inclusive, but that works.
I work kind off a round robin kind of thing. I'm sure if Gradovich had to fight everyone in the top 20 in his weight class, hed lose to quite a bit of them IMO.
Like a lot of them. Most of them, probably.

But thats fine, I'll give this dude another semi-chance, just not expecting much.
Also, that nickname needs to go. Might make him come off kinda douchey, especially with performances like today's.
At the very least he should clarify that its the Welsh Roger Mayweather.

Valid point, Selby seemed to struggle when Montiel was controlling the range and putting his punches together. He doesn't have Russell Jr's speed.

I give Selby a shot in that fight due to his significant height and reach advantage. If Russell can cut the distance effectively, which I think he can, he'll have no problem landing which could cause Selby to fight even more negatively than he did last night.
