Lets see what actually happens. I think its harder to fight 3-4 times a year when you are a PPV caliber guy, which is what GGG seems to be going for, than it is to do it when you are a premium cable guy. Its easy to say **** right now, but when HBO is saying we don't have the budget & GGG doesn't have 3-4 PPV opponents per year he'll likely be fighting 2 times a year too.
Basically I just think there is more going on here than just a boxers desire to fight more often. There's TV channels dates & budgets in play with this stuff to & PPV caliber opponents that just may not be lined up all the time.
Nowhere did anyone say that Golovkin was going to have 3 or 4 PPV fights per year. He may take two fights on regular HBO and one on PPV. One of the regular fights may well be his yearly Monaco invitation fight. Once he unifies the division, he may well try to make a fight or two at SMW which will most likely not be PPV fights if he cannot find a worthy opponent at MW who is willing and able to fight him.
Thank al haymon for that ....Stevenson,wilder.thurman ,porter didn't have to run to PBC there were offers from the other channel (HBO & TOP RANK).....they ran over there because there's safety in numbers and they know they get mummy cuddled...wilder and Stevenson are classic examples of that.....defending there titles with little risk......hopefully Terence Crawford will keep on HBO and other black fights will feature
or maybe the went over there bc pbc gives the highest purses..and they also get the best ratings of all channels..also haymon made floyd the man...why not be with the best...hbo kicked haymon off he didnt leave..they were pissed he let floyd go get super rich at showtime
If Golovkin can go mainstream and appeal to the casual fans of the sport, then I could see him squeezing in 3 big fights a year. Also, I don't necessarily see Golovkin fighting on PPV in every fight. When you add the PPV element, yes, it's harder to fight more frequently because the networks have budgets and so do the people who buy the PPVs.
Yea, I agree totally. I think he has carried a few times. I don't think he'll play again Lemieux.
I do believe after he has all four major MW belts we'll see more talk from Eubank, and Lara and Andrade will probably want to come up.
Not just beating and running guys off, but leaving no room for doubt. I also think he deserves that shot.
That's why this Ward talk is lame. GGG is expected to fight a guy two division above him for no other reason than he is too good for MW. Like, hell, then let him unify like he should.
Beating Canelo or Cotto, Lee, Quilin, (Andrade, Lara) if they come up. That would put his resume in overdrive.
Then when he has proved all he can. He should take in a top SMW.
I do think GGG will eventually go up to 168, but that will be after he has made a statement where he is at.
Nice catch.
I really think a fighter never has to move up for the most part. it is up to them. If bigger fights are in the next division, well, that's fine but moving up carries a lot with it. For a fighter like GGG, it means you may not be able to score KOs like he can at middleweight. I would never want to give up that power. Let's face it. You can debate a decision all day long, but a knockout leaves no room for that. If he stays at middleweight forever, that is fine with me. Clean out the division and just hold steady. Once his name is big enough, the young guns at 154 will seek him out. It's what the heavyweights do after all.
At least GGG does not allow the politics to slow him down. Some fighters complain about promoters and other problems with managers and what not and yet, continue to remain unseen but GGG stays out there on a regular basis. It's that "No excuses" attitude that gets it done.
