Someone better keep an eye out on Oscar to make sure he doesn't relapse if Golovkin wins.

I wish I was as high as Oscar.

While I respect Oscar, this is just him being a good promoter. He can't truly believe that the 26 year old Lemieux is a better boxer than the 33 year old, extensive amateur like Golovkin.

IMO David's plan should go like this: GGG is very focused on making his first PPV a good one. He keeps talking about a "good show" and "big drama" (like he always does I guess). If David goes in there with the plan of playing possum for 4-5 rounds, throwing hard but inaccurate punches, maybe getting knocked down once.. he may lull GGG into exposing himself. If he does this and gets an opportunity, he can get the out-of-nowhere KO.

It won't be long before De La Hoya realizes Goldenboy is at a Crossroads

After Lemieux loses, then he'll have Canelo. A win against Cotto will solidify the Mexican fan base, but then he'll have GGG as mandatory. Everyone will be talking about it.

No way De La Hoya sacrifices that Golden Goose to the GGG machine.

So he vacates, how are fans gonna feel about that act of courage.

I know Cotto/Canelo fans will instant start moaning Ward's name, as if he is GGG's mandatory for some title.

Oscar doesn't believe this for a second. He always pitches the underdog, it's his job as a promoter. He knows the problem here is that it's not all that competitive of a fight. If he can get you to think Lemieux has a chance, you might give him your money.

Canelo's PPV may be strong, but 1# he'll never be

ODLH knows boxing in the ring, but he has his promoters hat on too snug.

GGG is by far the better boxer and his beard is light years better.

It will be a brutal KO of David I'm afraid, unless a miracle occurs.
              He has a better beard?

There's really only one major PPV star after that.
Canelo is too heavy to go back down to 154, and if he does he will gas out against anyone half way decent.

Having GGG as his mandatory and vacating will harm his standing, but I guess not as much as getting KO'd.

I think he has some competition for that 1# spot.

Thing is Canelo is the future of boxing right now in many ways, not just the future of GBP. He's been the #3 guy arguably for awhile, now he's arguably #2. If he beats Cotto he's the clear #2 guy & then once Manny retires he could be the clear #1 guy. Canelo is very likely the face of boxing in 6-8 months & he's with GBP so GBP is gonna be just fine.
He could be, and then he'll vacate the Lineal title, or lose it to GGG by KO, and he'll once again be that guy who may be the future.

I don't think his Mexican fan base will leave him for vacating, but I think his inroads with American fans will dry up.

A good portion of the boxing public already believes he is too heavy for Jr.MW. That's why he gasses out so bad.

Exactly, just replace Dibella and Martinez with Oscar and Canelo and it will be the same situation.

This. His chin aint built for GGG. And hes the lesser skilled on top of that. Hes got almost no chance. Hes got power but they both have that, hes going to need a miracle.

Suppose you're right, Canelo wins and refuses to fight GGG. Canelo will get criticized as he should but where does that leave GGG in terms of credible opponents at 160lb?

Seems as though his only choice would be to move up to 168lbs for better challenges and paydays. How do you see things playing out for GGG at 160lb if Canelo ducks him?
