Comments Thread For: WBA Explains Chris Eubank Interim-Title Situation

The World Boxing Association wanted to clear up any confusion regarding tomorrow night's fight between Alfonso Blanco and Sergey Khomitsky in Venezuela.

The winner of that fight will be recognized as the WBA interim-middleweight champion - but victor won't receive that recognition until October 25th.

So they're letting him keep the title until the day after he defends it, then stripping him for inactivity. That's gotta be a new one right?

That still doesn't make sense to me. You're going to have an interim champion to the interim champion....

And Eubank Jr is allowed this joke of a defense before vacating the next day?

Lol it's hilarious. They're totally shameless. This way they get one last sanctioning fee out of Eubank. I would just dump the belt now if I was him.

I'm assuming that there is no way that Eubank pays them a sanctioning fee to strip him... HOPEFULLY there's no way he does that. And if he loses (and he won't), how do you strip Tony Jeter for Eubank's inactivity.

              The WBA is hell.

I don't understand the WBA, why do they have an interim title when the regular champion is well and fine.

I thought an interim title was for when the champion is injured and to hold his place they crown a interim champion.

Great. Golovkin can finally stop ducking a rematch against Middleweight Lineal Champ Sergey Khomitsky after he gets made Golovkin's mandatory.

It's a sad day when the lineal champ has to defend his title in Panama while the paper champ fights on PPV at the same time.
