As people age, their body can't train as hard, but also, they have learnt pretty much all they can or at least what their body can do as muscle memory. It's just getting sharp if you have been a pro like 15 years

It doesn't matter how many weeks Cotto trains. He will still knock Alvarez out in seven rounds -- eight if the referee is Steve Smoger, who will give Alvarez 30 seconds to get up from a knockdown.

This fight will be Froch/Bute II.

It's only typical because older fighters usually have trouble making weight, and their bodies don't react to the training as quick as a younger fighter. In this case it's reversed because the younger fighter Alvarez, has a large amount of conditioning and weight to lose, while the older fighter Cotto, came in to camp near fighting weight and condition. I have never seen a Cotto fight that was hug fest, I really don't know where some of you guys get these notions from.

In this case, Cotto is pretty much in weight but unless he was doing some serious endurance/cardio I dont know where he stands with his conditioning...we will find out soon.....
10 weeks of training is overkill, especially for a fighter of Cotto's boxing age. 1-2 weeks of conditioning cut, Cotto is already on/close to weight and conditioned. 1-2 weeks to get back in to boxing rythm (you called braking ice), also cut, because Cotto just fought in June vs Geale. At this age Roach is training Cotto smarter not harder. There are portions of training where Cotto will go hard but it won't be 6 weeks straight, it will only be specific, like mit's, or a long sparring session. If you trained a fighter with that schedule, your fighter would have peaked in week 8, and you would still have 2 weeks to go. Not only that, an older veteran fighter would be lucky to make it to the first bell, he would be completely wasted. 6-8 week training camp is fine for Cotto at this stage.

6 week, 8 weeks, it doesn't matter because Canelo is going to fold him up.

Depends, on the shape a fighter comes in.

I seen fighters coming in that needed way more time then 8 weeks, but I also seen fighters who came in ready at the start of camp and pretty much burned himself out mentally more then physically in camp.

Then theirs those fighters who are in camp 24.7 mentally strong and they don't get burned out mentally or physically.

You got to remember working out is a chore very few people love to do it, so alot get burnt mentally and physically eventually especially if camp goes harder then they mentally prepared for.
