Because Ward is relevant to the hardcore boxing fans but not the mainstream media. They could announce GGG/Ward tomorrow and it would have as much mainstream buzz as any other GGG fight.
That's the thing you are missing. Ward's last fight was on BET for christ's sake, despite the fact that Ward has been commenting on HBO fights. Think about that. HBO said no to the guy the employed for commenting because it doesn't make business sense.
The only way the fight happens is if Ward takes a step back and realizes his position in the game. He can't make demands, he has no leverage. GGG's guy is saying they don't need Ward and they are right, they will get just as much mainstream notoriety and press beating a host of other guys.

****** nonsense. Fans have no control over who these fighters want to fight. You know that. You've giving way too much credit on their influence. Man, I can't wait to see the Lemieux fight done and over with so that fans can focus on this Ward vs GGG controversy.

      This fight has to happen.

I actually DID like him but he's clearly too good and too strong for his division and should move up to fight better guys at 168 like he said he's willing to do . GGG is a threat , and so is Ward , so there needs to be a clash between the two . Its the biggest fight in boxing as far as I'm concerned , and no true boxing fan should be against this fight for fear that their fighter may lose . Kovalev is scary , but I still want to see Ward fight him . If he loses , he loses , but at least I'll know who's the best .

The only people who don't realize this are CoWard's little fan base...

I mean 172 lb BET fighter is irrelevant to a guy who is fighting on HBO PPV and is in line for the Cotto and Canelo winner for MW supremacy...

If Ward is so irrevelealant sign the fight, get him out of there, put a notch on the GGG gun belt and raise his stock if he wants to be a top PPV attraction. Stop worrying about the other guys lack of fights. This would. Only help your boy's (GGG) chance of winning right now...Or do we have ore excuses?

A 168-172 lb world champion gold medalist who cleaned out a talented division and has basically been barred from fighting on HBO because their promoting a great white hype at the moment , therefore can no longer have Ward on their network simultaneously destroying opponents for fear that more people will demand Ward vs GGG .

Next time , please dont forget the subtext as I'm tired of completing your sentences for u !

                    Yes, 4yrs ago.

Ward was never barred from fighting on HBO. He's not a draw and wanted million dollar paydays for tuneup bouts. HBO rejected it. Nothing personal just business.

Ward should just retire. His stagnant career has descended to him revolving it around a single fight, a single fighter that isn't even in his weight class. He has zero relevance & generates zero interest outside of that one solitary matchup. He's an Olympic gold medalist that has to give out tickets in his own hometown & can only get on a major network nowadays via an undercard.
