Amatuer dominance translates to the pros generally. Right now Cuba and Ukraine are producing strong amateur talent. Cubans can't turn pro though but a few of those that have...have been extremely successful.
Are Eastern Europeans taking over boxing?

Eastern Europe and Central Asian are producing the best talent right now.
Russia has so much talent that there are two or three fighters fighting for a spot in the Olympic team.
The bad thing is that a lot of the talent is also going to waste. There aren't really any promoters in Eastern Europe/Central Asia that are going out prospect hunting unfortunately. Unless you're an Olympian, you will most likely not get a chance. But I am hopeful this will change with the emergence of promoters like K2, Fight Promotions and Ryabinsky.
I am happy Ramil Gadzhiev turned pro, I would have liked for him to get more amateur experience, but he missed his shot at going to the Olympics so instead of waiting five more years he decided to go pro. Which is the correct choice in my opinion, because there is no guarantee he will make the team for 2020. You just never know what could happen during that time.
So hopefully those promoters start signing some of the prospects/fighters that are not getting a shot at the Olympic team instead of seeing that talent go to waste. There are Youth Champions that are not getting an opportunity in the Senior team, in my opinion they should do what Ramil did and go pro.
Russia is especially producing Youth and Junior talent that will probably never get a shot at the Senior team.
Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan are also producing a lot of talent. Ukraine is struggling right now, but I keep hearing that the 2020 team and on should start getting better.
We especially need more fighters from 56-69kg to start turning pro, not a lot of them do.
Well I'm just rambling at this point, but the point is that more Eastern European/Central Asian fighters should start making the jump to professional boxing, especially if they are not getting a chance at the Olympic team. They should do what Kovalev did:No team shot, well might as well go pro instead of wasting my talent.
Maybe there is a reason they don't go pro that I don't know of.Comment

if by taking over boxing you mean "coming to america for training, sparring, bigger purses, etc.
america doesn;t really have a nationality. we're a nation of immigrants. most born in the US have only been here for a few generations at most. importing talent is what we've always done.
you don't get that "tiny little island" phenomenon, like the brits, who were inbred for several thousand years

LOL What? Khabib was never touted for big things he is B level at best..
Limited Provodnikov would walk through Broner & break him up! Postol would jab him to death too! These two EE guys aren't remotely on the level of the greats of EE who never turned pro like:
Most don't even turn pro STILL! The vast majority of the elite ones never have except up until very recently.. Lomachenko, Golovkin etc
EE's dominate the bigger weights & it has had a trickle down effect even into the smaller ones now too & if you look at most of the best prospects in the sport they are coming from EE & many smaller weight fighters coming through too:
Sergiy Derevyanchenko & Khytrov are exceptional MW prospects!
Konstantin Ponomarev, Dmitry Mikhaylenko & Egidijus Kavaliauskas are also top WW & LWW prospects!
Eduard Troyanovsky is likely to win the IBF LWW belt in a couple of week too! Dennis Shafikov is very good also & may get the IBF LW title in December also ..
Loma, Postol, Prov are all worthy current midget champions too!Last edited by 1g5a22; 10-14-2015, 11:43 AM.Comment

How does name pronunciation bear any relation to their ability to impact on boxing or to win fights & belts?! LOL The guy in your avatar can barely speak English let alone these EE's.. So I wouldn't worry about that! Just stick to 'bro' & all that if its easier.. Aren't Deontay, Adrien, Germaine etc women's names anyway?! Focus less on names & more on results in future... Muhammad Ali? Pernell? What kind of names are those?! LOL
Ignoramus.
I can pronounce their names fine, it's called education & a willingness to embrace the new. YOU WILL KNOW THEIR NAMES LIKE IT OR NOT SON MWAHAHAHAHAHA....Last edited by 1g5a22; 10-14-2015, 11:57 AM.Comment

I liken it to Euros in the NBA. Are they important and a key part of the league? Yes? Are they "taking over"? No. The money is in the US and so being a US-based fighter still means you have the most money-making potential.
It has sort of become a way to sort of show off you're some sort of super "hardcore" boxing obsessive to namedrop euro fighters from obscure Kazakh promotions that no one outside of a few dozen people give a s*** about though.Comment

Sure the American fighters make more money, does that mean they're the better fighters though?I liken it to Euros in the NBA. Are they important and a key part of the league? Yes? As far as skill and domination comes to hand, the Eastern Europeans and Russian are definitely next to us if not past us already.Comment
