  • Short boxers with long reach

Can you remember any successful short boxers with long reaches?

Frampton has really small arms, yet still has a very effective jab. Utilised it to good effect against Gonzalez.

i dunno what winky's reach was.

but winky was only 5'9 or so and seemed to jab everyone to death.

sonny liston was only 6 ft.

but his reach was supposedly 84 in.

that's 3 in. more than 6'6 wlad and 5 in. more than 6'7 vitali.

Just what I was going to say.

Now I'm not sure what the average reach for a man who is 5'8'' should be but Mayweather has 72" and he always looks like he has long arms. It helps him fire that right hand in and keep his jab poking out. At 5'8'', Mayweather fights like someone who is much taller.

I was a big fan of Joseph Kiwanuka (Uganda native who came to the US) back in the day. He didn't really get any higher than fringe contender status. Although looking up his stats now looks like he was 6'2 (so not short really) & boxrec claims he only had a 82in reach (as a SMW), but watching him back in the day he seemed to have freakishly long arms to me.

i dunno floyd's reach but he seems to have long reach.

but that could be just perception because of his style/skill always seeming to land while out of the opp reach.

Floyd is like 5ft6 or 5ft7 and he has 72" reach that's pretty good for someone of that height.
