  • Comments Thread For: Gonzalez Believes HBO Backing Will Bring Biggest Fights

It took more than 10 years for Roman Gonzalez to get to this point, and it still took the financial backing of HBO, who finally began showcasing the unbeaten World flyweight champ earlier this year. Now armed with the American cable giant as well as K2 Promotions, Gonzalez is beginning to venture towards the fight he has long craved.

Next up for the now-recognized best pound-for-pound fighter in the world is an October 17 showdown with former two-division champ Brian Viloria. Their bout will come as the chief support to the middleweight title unification clash between Gennady Gololvkin and David Lemieux, with both fights showcased live on HBO Pay-Per-View from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Welp, Viloria's a great start. Hopefully Estrada 2 is in the works.

            Hopefully it does...

So many idiots claim he is p4p #1 yet 2 fights ago he was fighting a guy that was 34-28.. Can you imagine the backlash floyd or manny would take if they fought a guy with 28 losses. Lmao, idiots wanna crucify them for fighting Berto or rios, let alone a 28 loss guy..
And for the record, roman's best win since 2012 is a guy that 17-3-- Derek chisora level

Signing to HBO today is equivalent to being a recording artist and signing with Diddy .

People have GGG as a top P4P guy yet he hasn't done squat compared to Roman.

                Chocolatito's career ****s all over Golovkin's.

Both are p4p, but neither is top 3.. I'm talking about the idiots that have roman #1 and heir apparent to floyd.. But yes I would rate roman slightly ahead of ggg.. But outside of the Estrada win his opponents are no better than macklin, geale, Murray, stevens.. I don't care what titles they held, Francisco Rodriguez and yaegashi are not great wins.., the tachayama win is a solid win though..
I got roman ranked somewhere between 4-6 and ggg somewhere between 6-8

Chavez fought guys like that in stay busy pseudo exhibitions when he was on top and no one batted an eye. It is what it is...a pad stat to kill time. Instead of sitting for months, he made an appearance. This is the weakest point people make against Roman. He fought a non-title fight between defenses as a local favor. He didn't do it on HBO, PPV, or any valuable network space and he's not a multi-million dollar draw who couldn't use some extra. And no one sites that as a quality win.

                    Seriously...who cares?
